Good tips for playing safe in lane?

I play a lot of mid lane, I usually play aggressive and trade well in lane. However, I get ganked often with this play style and i can sometimes win hard or lose hard because of it. I was wondering if anyone had any advice with playing safe in lane. Buying wards doesn't always help me because red trinkets can always clear them or smites from jgl giving ward vision. Even if i escape a gank sometimes I see a few more return ganks. What are some things I can do to stop my bad habits of dying to ganks?
