PvP or Bots?

I'm a fairly new player at level 6. I've handled a few champions correctly with practice, but can't seem to get the hang of the other champions. This is a problem because the few champions I'm comfortable with are mages or marksmen. For example, I'm comfortable with ranged champions (like Ashe), but fail at any sort of melee champion (like Garen). I can't play any sort of support, tank, or otherwise (I've been flamed for not picking a support).

I don't want to bring my team down in pvp by choosing an ADC when the team needs a support that I can't control. Should I stick to bots for practice or dive straight into pvp?

You'll learn a lot faster in pvp, but bots are a much safer place to practice if you're worried about getting yelled at my teammates. I 100% agree with genuwhine though, if someone is going to rage in a sub-level 30 normal game, about anything, then that says everything about their issues and nothing about yours.

If you're already comfortable with mages and marksmen, you can always try out learning to support on mage-type champions like Annie or Lux - you play them very similarly to how you might play them mid.

Just start with the item Spellthief's Edge, build Sightstone when you can and use the wards to give your team vision, and don't auto attack or use abilities on any of the minions. Congratulations, you're officially a good support :D

Play bot games until you're comfortable combating the bot poke and still getting high CS.

Most people in bot games will ignore the cs but it's good practice for beginners.

After you're good with that and you understand what you should be doing in each lane, check out the guides on mobafire.com for your champ and make sure you build and have your masteries as close to the top guides as possible.

lolcounter.com and lolnexus also help a bit when you're a beginner going into normal pvp games.

Try not to get discouraged when you mess up. There's a LOT of toxic people out there that will blame you for their own mistakes. Shrug them off, shrug off the mistake and go back into your lane and try hard. Can't win every game but the more you practice against real players the better you'll get.

Play bots, no rush. Play as many bot games as needed. Personally, I played bot games for ages before jumping into normal PVP games.

I would say play bots until you reach lv 9 or 10, practice how to last hit, and learn the basic mechanics of the champions, also play with a high lv player you might encounter in those games, they will teach you as well..

Bots won't teach you anything other than the basics of how a champion works. You'll never learn how to pvp if you don't play in pvp.

Play intermediate bot games until you can easily kill beginner bots repeatedly. Try to get at least 50 farm by 20 minutes. Then move to PvP games. You will be matched with other newer players (except for random smurfs). You will learn faster playing PvP games. Don't expect to feel like a dominant force until you've been playing for a while.
