Need advice on actually winning lane

DaBosco·5/26/2015, 5:45:04 PM·1 votes·1,385 views

So im usually a midlaner sometimes top, support for fill. With my solo laning i can most of the time not lose lane but have a hard time actually getting kills and winning it. As mid i feel its very important to get ahead, deny CS or get a kill or 2. I find that when i dont get that lead early i tend to fall off hard late by trying to force kills and engages and end up out of position. Im skittish a little to tower dive or extend too far for to long while laning for fear of the almighty JG gank. Should i try and force kills more during laning to get ahead or stay safe knowing as long as i dont LOSE the lane im doing my job? obviously i need to work on my positioning in team fights and i know that is a failing of mine. Recently started ranked and placed B1 and the last thing i want to do is fall into elo hell. I just feel like i should be carrying more when i play mid Ahri Lissandra and to a smaller extent Xerath . I usually play Maokai and Malphite top with liss on occasion and dont epect to do more then farm, survive, and a bit of poking to make a jg gank viable so im not to terribly worried about full win lane top. Should i be less afraid of diving/forcing kills or just stay the course and not lose lane.

Okay so I notice that you are going negative in most of your games, actually 9 games out of the last 10 you have played. Your cs is about half what it needs to be, and really you should be doing more norms until you are consistently going even/positive. You dont have to win lane to do well, but if you cs properly you can carry. Most of your games are lasting ~30 minutes and you have 100-150 cs in those games, you should be having 220-300 cs in that amount of time, I know u play champions like ahri who are hard to cs on, but still, gotta work on that.

maybe an idea could be if early game you can make them back a bit then you should force their lane in to tower and roam, as ahri or liss you have amazing cc potential to gank bot lane if you can pull it off which could not only put you ahead but also your adc, so if you are able to roam bot and seperate the adc from the support with a nice charm or ring of frost take in mind you should NOT* try and gank when the enemy adc is under their tower but you already knew that, just try and see if the enemy is overextending and roam. hope this helped

Trditionally midlaners scale better of XP than of Gold, that's why they go mid as mid is the easiest place to get XP.

Getting a kill is nice, but not required. Your main task is staying alive and in XP range and CS when you can.

Okay.. Make sure to ward your lane and play safe, towards the side you warded early to watch for ganks. keep track of the enemy jungler, rather than going for kills early Farm 20 cs ~ 1 kill, if you don't play aggressive early, DON'T take summoner 14

So the champion's you mentioned Ahri: Is a lane bully, just make sure to farm early and not get stabbed by the enemy jungler, if you play safe pre 6 you can use your ult Aggressively if not, save it till your flash is up, unless the river is warded, make sure to take item 2009

Lissandra: She has CC and sustain early if you use your E aggressively make sure to save your W and Flash for a get away, don't all in, with any champion unless you know were the enemy is

Xerath: Poke Poke Poke, try not to push the lane, and freeze it before it hits your turret,

if you want to win lane top, play a lane bully and take ignite, freeze the wave in the center, and stand infront of your caster minions, this way if the enemy tries to poke you, the minions will agro them in return, also if the enemy is low, and forced to back, pushing the wave into their turret will cause them to loose xp and gold, Forcing their tp in return

Unless you're an assassin you don't need to be getting solo kills to carry. Keep your tower alive and roam if you see an opportunity. Help your jungler pressure the enemy jungler if you can keep your wave shoved and you have time to walk around.

Ahri and Xerath are both great for shoving the lane. Push your opponent into the turret and go ward or gank in the downtime. Even just walking part way through the river without any purpose is useful because it puts your opponents on edge if they don't see you and it gives you the option to respond if you see a fight break out in the lane you're already walking towards.

If your opponent freezes the wave while you're trying to push it can be very dangerous, so if you're going to shove make sure you have enough mana to do so.

I think you need to reconsider your top lane goals. Farming is great but waiting on a jungler..., when your the lane away form the dragon is not a good thing. Make sure you are taking to TP and try to make plays with that instead of using it to get back to lane. You may carry by feeding your bot lane the advantage they need to win the game.

If your goal is to win the lane, mabye try playing Malz? He not only has some of the strongest pushing skills in the game, but I find it relatively easy to get kills with him via tenacious use of his e, than the rest of his skills to follow up if needed. Not only that, but because he pushes the lane so insanely hard, it's usually possibe to knock out the mid tower by early mid game. However, he lacks mobility, which might present a small learning curve if you're used to playing Ahri. If you have the time, I'de give him a shot - best of luck!

But yeah a lot of what people on here are saying is true - despite what the pros do, mid lane usually doesnt go for a ton of kills, I've found it to be highly effective to roam bot and help snowball the adc, than once bot is taken care of, rotate back mid and wait for ganks in order to win my lane faster.

Ahri and to a lesser extent Xerath can and should roam down to bot lane if their opponent backs. Without a gank it can be hard to get a kill in midlane, but if you can generate a 3v2 in bot lane you have an opportunity for some kills. You can try to roam to top, but I don't recommend it.

The big thing for midlane is not so much to "win the lane" as to avoid losing it. Your jungler and perhaps bot lane can come help you and should be rotating to help once you get some pressure established. Then you can push for a victory.

And remember that kills don't mean wins. They do mean some extra gold, but a turret and 1 wave of creeps is just as good. If you don't give up a kill and your opponent is forced to back, you can take a turret and some creeps or a jungle camp and get the same gold.

Concentrate on objectives. In the end destroying the nexus wins the game, not kills. Work on the standard priority

  1. Nexus
  2. Nexus Turrets
  3. Inhibitors
  4. Inhibitor Turrets
  5. Baron
  6. Inner turrets
  7. Outer Turrets/Dragon
  8. enemy champions.

If you work it in that order you'll find that you do fine even if you don't get a ton of kills in lane.

Your worry as middle lane shouldn't be to get kills early, preventing your enemy from CS'ing, or trying to create situations where you're not going to end up on top. All you need to do it make sure you defend your tower, CS, and be there for objective control. You dont need to be ahead in every game to win.
