Best champs for new player

I'm trying to get a friend into League and teach him how to play. I'm looking for some tips on what people think the best champs to teach a new player are.

So there it is, what do you think are the best champs to play with, and what are the best champs to learn mechanics on?

Thanks!

All great champs in their respective roles, and all 450 ip

As everyone said, the 450IP champs are easy, yet very viable

In my opinion, easy to learn champions are better for new players than reliable/safe laners. Most all 450 IP champions are perfect for new guys. As the guy 2 posts above says, liking Riot on FB, Twitter, etc will give you 3 champs with 2 skins.

Thats kind of funny. My first three champions I bought were Lux, panth, and ahri. I found that playing with higher skill cap champions were you get punished more if you made a mistake made me focus on learning how to use there abilities for an advantage.

Tank - Sion. The classic juggernaut who can dominate with almost entirely defensive stats. Garen is another very good tank to learn with Fighter - I learned to play fighter with Fiora. She has a great kit for learning top lane, and she can easily transition into an assassin or a bruiser Assassin - My first ever assassin (and main) was Talon. His kit is very easy to understand, and it's easy to be very successful with him at low skill levels, and he can also be played with great efficiency at higher skill levels as well, though a bit less so since he lost his silence. Mage - Xerath and Lux are the Magiest Mages I can think of. They both have decent high damage, and can focus on single enemies and also use AOE to high effect. Burst Mage - What I consider an AP assassin. Katarina is a very simple and very powerful burst mage. Ahri is a bit higher skill level example of this Battle Mage - An AP bruiser/fighter. Sejuani and Lissandra are more basic examples that could be easier to learn and are tankier, Diana is closer to a fighter than a bruiser, and has a bit higher skill requirement Marksmen - Varus and Ashe are both very good champions to learn to play with. Either can lead into other ADCs. I would suggest Tristana but her upcoming rework (next week or two) is going to increase her skillcap Support - depends on the prefered playstyle. Sona, Janna, Leona and Blitz are all good starting supports, that are easy to learn and can be taken to higher levels of play as you improve

Garen, Nunu, Warwick, Annie, Sivir (pretty good starting ADC, kind of simple to understand), Brand, Jarvan is somewhat simple to play but kinda hard to master, Master Yi is easy to learn.

The most important thing is to keep it simple. Stick with the no frills champs. Usually ADC is the easiest especially with someone like Ashe. They learn the mechanics that are most important (last hitting) because they don't have those frills that distract them. Her Q and W allow them to understand the concept of slows....her ult introduces the CC...and her hawksight allows them to understand the concept of vision and its importance.

I suggest champions that can teach him to be aggressive. He can learn to be passive after he knows whats it like to be aggresive.

ANNIE for last hitting and awareness [tell him to keep an eye on the stun and when its up, go in!] TALON / RIVEN / NIDALEE for aggressiveness fun! WARWICK for entering the jungle [you dont need runes!]

He'll have fun with those champs ;)

Ryze! Don't forget Ryze. He's awesome and very straightforward.

ADC: Caitlyn - not complicated to play, can focus on last hitting and using skillshots Supp: Sona - easy to play, so can practice winning lane with harass, and roaming to ward Mid: Twisted Fate - Learn about wave clear, stuns, and global ults! Jungle: Warwick maybe? nothing fancy there Top: Shyvana - work on itemizing depending on the enemy, and being an initiator/tank

Kayle Because no matter how you decide to build her, she'll be effective. You can teach support style with her (heal and ult), ranged play style, and mage play styles all on the same champion.

And she doesn't have any difficult mechanics to be had. You want to do direct damage, hit Q. Ranged aoe damage, hit E. Low on hp and need to gtfo, hit W and R. Need a few seconds to breathe, hit R. Nothing complicated with her besides her build maybe, but for low levels her build doesn't even matter since she will be effective regardless.
