Any tips to control toxicity?

I will admit I become very salty depending on the game, sometimes even little things. I was wondering if there were any tips on how to overcome this toxicity. Anyone?

Mute everyone, right at the start of the match. It works everytime.Taric

Well I tried that, but I still end up saying something like "Why tf do you guys keep diving 1v5" or something

If you're looking for some less mentioned tips and tricks try these:

  • Keep a water bottle nearby for extended play. When it comes to hydration of you're thirsty that means you're already dehydrated and your temper can suffer because of it. Granted leading a generally healthy diet and lifestyle helps loads too, but baby steps amiright? XD

  • Wear a long sleeved shirt, stay warm. Not to the point where you're sweating naturally but being cold can make you tense and again, it's another thing to get your stress up a bit.

  • The second you start thinking about anything past tense "X happened" or "We coulda done Y", stop, breathe, and focus on the present and future of the game. Look forward and only look back when thinking about how you and your team can improve.

  • Type slower. No, seriously, just type slower. The more time it takes for you to hit "enter" the more time you get to think about what you're actually typing. I've had plenty of times where I've written out a string of sentences and just before I hit enter I delete it all, knowing there's better uses for the chat.

  • If you're using voice chat (skype, etc) with friends and you find yourself getting salty, mute yourself. It's so much easier to complain and put yourself on a tirade of rage when you know people are listening. Human nature thing.

I don't know about the water bottle thing but I'll look into that, everything else is a good idea thank you.

Just try to take away something from every time you mess up. Look for a positive outlet i feel the same way sometimes LOL.

At slightest negative comment, mute them.

Drag the chatbox offscreen entirely if you think that's necessary for you to keep a cool head.

I wish I could help, but I can't offer any personal experience on the matter. I'm usually on the other end of it, trying to calm down players that start to get testy.

I'm just always bubbly and cheerful and try my best to help the team work together. Muting people is terrible advice >.> If they're going on a tangent just don't read it, but sometimes it's good to know what they're typing because it could be related to what's going on in the game (i.e. taking wolves then backing) so you know to not try and catch somebody out then get counter-engaged on because the mid laner you thought was going to help you is clearing camps. Just be NICE, you would be amazed how many games I've won by just ignoring the negativity and trying my best to lighten the mood ^^
