[Spreadsheet] How to Build Azir

There seems to be a lot of variability in what people use on Azir, even in similar situations. Obviously no two games are alike and if the enemy team is all AP or all AD or the enemy ADC is super fed or any number of other things, you need to deviate from a norm, quite possibly substantially. But what I'm saying is that even in standard games, many players don't seem to be building Azir in an optimal way. I'm an Azir main and I like making spreadsheets way too much. As a result, I've spent a wee bit too much time/effort optimizing builds for him via spreadsheeting. Without further ado, here is the spreadsheet I've created.

Azir Damage Spreadsheet

A few observations I've gleaned from making this:

  1. Making a dedicated rune page for Azir (who else uses CDR/level runes?) makes Azir better. This may seem obvious in retrospect, but still.
  2. DPS Builds (the Rod of Ages and the Luden's Echo DPS builds) can fit a fourth attack in where burst builds would just be finishing their third attack.
  3. Rylai's is pretty much never a good offensive choice in terms of damage. Only ever buy it if you need the health or can make use of the passive to consistently to get an extra hit off without either you or your target dying first.
  4. What I've heard referred to several times in the past as the "Meta" build and the one I've been yelled at by my teammates in-game for not using is not good. Likewise, the most frequent build on Champion.gg is just not ideal.

Also, attached is a simplified flow chart of which build to select based upon the situation. Again, obviously I cannot predict the variance within individual games. If the situation calls for a violation of this, then by all means, violate it.

Your spreadsheet, is not viewable online.

I don't even know if i have any program to view spreadsheets with.

Would love to take a look at it tho.

I think your spreadsheet is missing some options. I'd like to see how a full set of AS runes and Berserker Greaves factor into his output. With AS marks and quints you can potentially start with up to 29% AS at level 1, and more with masteries.

I find that magic pen from void staff is more than enough for most games, and nearly every item you for get him will have AP and CDR...easily hitting the 40% cap in most games. That means CDR in runes and masteries is largely wasted when similar gains from AS can be taken instead which stack Much higher before capping at 2.5 ApS.

So basicly it boils down to this...are AP runes a better offensive choice than AS runes for him, and if so in what situations? I am of the mind that AS runes may be his best choice and AS boots may also be ok on him depending on how you use him.

One thing most people neglect to consider is how powerful his objective control scales with AS on his W. He can clear dragons and barons crazy fast and can steal jungle camps with incredible speed once he has enough. His counter jungle presence mid game after he has pushed a tower is incredible due to his ability to make a tower and leave his lane knowing it won't be puahed. He can easily steal enemies chickens and even blue buffs with little concern for being caught due to his mobility and wall hopping tricks.

Let me know if you find out more, I will do the same if I find time to edit your spreadsheet myself before then and add the relevant items I'm considering into it. Thanks for the info.

Btw, another item I think bars consideration on Azir is banner of command. He becomes a monster lane pusher with it, and it's a strong choice verses an AP mid with an strong AP support or Jungler on the enemy team.
