Is it better to practice all positions or specialize in one?

Hey all. I know it all comes down to opinion, but I was wondering: if it is better to be well versed in all roles, or be specialized in one? If you are great at one role, it will be easier to carry games and get snowballing. But at the same time, in draft pick, it can be easy for you to get banned out or for someone else to pick your role before you can. If you are a, "jack of all trades" you will help your team by being flexible, but as they say, "A jack of all is master of none." So which is best to get further in the game? Please leave your thought below :)

Keep in mind every answer you're going to get is fully opinion. In a game where there is a constantly shifting meta there is no one right way to do things.

The way I see it the answer you're looking for is both. You want to have one position you know like the back of your hand and can carry from in any but the most hopeless situations, and yet you also want to be able to adjust to better fit your team's needs. You may be the best jungler on the planet, but if you going ADC can help put the rest of your team in a better situation you have a better chance of winning. That is, of course, if you don't feed. You don't need to carry from every position, you simply have to make it easy on your team to carry you.

Basically practice the other positions from time to time to keep it's mechanics and particularities fresh in your mind, but have one position you are clearly superior at.

It depends on your goal really.

Being a one trick pony will help you rank up quicker, no doubt about it but you will hit a ceiling.

Learning all the champions and all the roles will help you learn the game faster. This is important to know how to win games, even those that look lost from the beginning.

To achieve the highest rank possible, you really need to do both. This game takes a long time to learn.

If the champion is LeeSin or Riven or Katarina then specializing is actually pretty effective because they're all broken and hard to balance.

If you're a one trick pony and it gets banned though, you're pretty screwed. So you should learn like 2 champs per role

Also, this is 100% fact

Learn one champ really well that doesn't get bammed to often, but also isn't underpowered. For me this was janna. The idea is that as long as you have a 54%+ winrate on your main, the 10% of the time on different stuff only needs to win 2/10 games off your main to climb. I also consider this the best because a lot of game mechanics and knowledge can be learned from any lane( excluding jungle.)

I'd recommend you specialize in one or two positions but try and maintain a basic competence in all of them.

You don't always get your role and you will have to play others occasionally, but you probably want to specialize in one or two roles.

I've played since season 1 and have gotten many accounts to diamond and 2 to Challenger. My advice for new players are always to stick to 1-3 champions within 1 role and just play until they become proficient with that champion. Start off with ranking and if you do bad, try your best to learn from your mistakes. If you get placed in a lower elo, you should understand that it is never your teamates' fault if you should ever lose, and that you did something to contribute to the loss as well.

All in all, learn 1-3 champions in 1 role and just spam ranks until you learn from your mistakes. Never blame your teamates when you lose because you obviously did something to help as well. If you'd like for me to elaborate, add me and I can explain. Good luck!

Understand all roles. Specialize in 2-3.

Both. Pick your favorite role to focus on and play it any time you can. But be able to play competently in any role you may be stuck with. As you rank up with your main role, you'll get better and play against better opponents, and falling back into another role will not be difficult because your skills have been improving.

Be great with 1 role, and good with 2-3 other roles For example I main mid talon, and I usually carry hard. But I respect the pick order and if I don't get mid I just go Trundle Top/Jungle, or Vayne ADC.

Dang I see this question way too much...

I suggest practicing all roles until you're at least decent at all of them. After that, you can begin to start mastering one role.

You should know how to play all of them well. However, you should get REALLY good at 2 of them.

It depends on the role. Some roles just can't carry when your whole team is feeding no matter how fed.

You want to get decent at all roles, since you will have to fill all of them at some point. Once you can do that, then you can focus on specializing.
