I notice I climb consistently when I have a good duo partner. Doesn't even have to be an adc main (I hate jungle so I like duoing with people that play jungle)

But it IS hard to carry with support because it demands that your team be able to capitalize on your plays. It doesn't matter how godly your Leona engages and Nami bubbles are if your team is too scared or stupid to follow up.

If you truly enjoy support, don't let anyone tell you to just play something else.

I climbed to plat by playing mostly support; I call fill, which puts me on support most of the time and has made it my best role. So, there's nothing about the role that is preventing you from climbing (just saying).

A few tips to help control your games:

  • communicate positively with your teammates, especially with the jungler in securing objectives.
  • similarly, ward around objectives (which change throughout the game); don't just keep warding the same bushes all game.
  • try helping your team's morale by thanking your jungler for ganks, saying "nj/gj" "wp" when your teammates do something good; do not rage or provide "tips" to improve gameplay.
  • peel for your fed teammates or if your team is not quite fed yet, then help them dive any fed/high value enemies
  • pick your champion and itemize according to what your team needs. For example, go tank support if your team needs a tank, pick someone with reliable cc against a team with Katarina, or build locket against AoE and high AP comps. Learn counterpicks too, if you'll be maining the role.
  • do not use exhaust only for its slow. It is best used for damage reduction, so put it on an enemy you don't want dealing their damage.
  • when you're on tilt, take a break for at least an hour. Listening to music while playing helps reduce tilt in my experience too.
  • if you're not winning lane, don't just ditch your ADC and hang out mid. Keep your ADC safe while they try to catch up in cs. And, ganking mid after losing bot is really predictable. Whenever I play mid, I never fall prey to a support's gank because they are so predictable, whereas jungler ganks are less so.

The answer to this question is actually extremely simple. You play Leona and you get really good with her. And make sure you roam mid frequently too.

Ok, i'll see what I can do to help and stick around the thread but you better do the same.

First, are you sure you even want to support main?

I used to be a support main and in B5 but then I got sick of losing and changed my main.

What support are you playing? Some supports can backseat carry alot (morg, Nid, Leona, Etc.)

What will it take to find a duo to help you? I recommend you put something on the boards or try to find a decent adc in soloQ games and duo with them.

Can you verbally communicate with your adc? I recently started maining adc bc I can duo with my sister who is a support main and talking rly helps.

based on the answers to these questions I will do what I can to help you more.

You gotta try Janna. With the right build you can carry your whole team. I've done that and I often turn the tide in teamfights. Speaking as a Janna main(because my name does not say) I know what I'm on about. Q=Ultra peel :) W=More peel, and broken slow E=broken shield that even gives you a crap ton of ad..base+10% ap hah xD R=Queen Of Peel. Press R to peel and make your team immortal for a while xDD Janna

Carry if you gotta. I was 1v1'ing the enemy adc as Naut. Just gotta play all blood thirsty if your team isn't doing their thing.

Edit: I know the above sounds silly, but sometimes my top or mid for example will feed, so I just go aggro mode on Morg or something and get like the second most kills and wreck faces.

Play someone with waveclear as support. That way when your ADC is being an idiot and off farming the jg instead of pushing the lane, at least you can do something.

If you want to play a real support then don't expect to win games without a duo partner. Bot is the only lane one where players have to rely on eachother early game, and tensions are high with strangers who don't know how you play.
