Is being a 1 trick pony really better for climbing?

Some streams say playing only one champ is better for gaining elo, but is it really? What are your peoples opinions on it :3 i mean if you play only one champ what happens when that champ gets picked or banned? Wouldnt you start losing elo?

Yes, it is better until people start guessing you are in the game which isn't till diamond where the pool of opponents you fight is alot smaller.

The issue is you need back ups for when they are banned or you dont get your role.

The thing is, on some champs, it is very rare for that to happen. I am normally given jungle, and I have had Amumu picked away from me a whole 1 time.

So one trick poney can get you to gold or higher but at some point it becomes a problems.

Problems People understand how to play against you. Meta shifts and the champ does not work with the new meta ones Nerfs come and make the champ not as strong.

So the problem with being a one hit wonder is that you will only know that one champ. Great you get to Plat on Viktor but when you do not get him you play at silver or lower. At some point your 1 champ is not going to be available to you in ranked. What are you going to do? This is why mid range elo players can look like trash, they are unable to play outside of their main.

One trick players tend to have shallow understanding of the game and count on cheese tactics that they end up risking the game on. They are low class players.

Yes, one trick pony is best way just make sure you have fill rolls down though.

Main kat and one trick pony kat but I can fill any roll and have set champs for other roles just in case. You wont always get the role you want but let people know you're a one trick pony.

For low ELO players... bad players, it is a crutch. By playing only one champ you are forcing yourself to learn that champ. So, even if you don't understand all the aspects of the game that apply regardless of what champ you are playing, having a decent amount of skill at the champ can win your lane. If you are fed, you don't need to worry as much about those other things like warding and positioning.

I would definitely recommend for a NEW player, that they only play one champ so they can learn that champ and from there learn the rest of the game. However if you are looking to climb, get your game together in normals first and then come back to ranked.

That all being said, having preferred and main champs is totally fine. Keeping in mind that if that champ is banned, picked, countered, or doesn't fit well into the team comp that you have something else you can play.

Honestly, i believe that answer is yes. By learning a single champion and playing 100+ games with them, you learn their exact power spikes and the limitations each champion has so that you never risk going all in only to find out you really didn't have enough damage to win the fight.

yeah, playing one champion is pretty good for climbing. I spammed irelia straight from gold 4 to like plat 3 and climbed super easy.

if your champ gets banned you pretty much just dodge.

having a champion you are really good at that you can use in multiple roles is the best, I have 3 champs for every role and most of the time mid/top/jungle are interchangeable champions. For example i pretty much mained kayle 65% win rate in diamond but also picked annie in some match ups have a 69% wr in diamond with her and i had a champion for jungle and adc. Made it pretty easy went through plat fast.

Nope, its okay to have favorites, but in higher elo you must pick what your team needs, if you love yasuo, but have a yi jungle and fiora top, your comp will lose. Unless you have a favorite champ thats a god at split pushing, and your team picks a lot of wave clear, pick for your team.

I only started climbing after evolving into a one trick pony :). Well, more like a two trick Pony. I got to diamond 1 by spamming those Janna and Shen games.

Well I have spent months practicing Nasus and every single time I either go even in lane and get 400 stacks by 20 minutes or I outright destroy the lane and my opponent. I win lane 90% of the time, in ranked I always do well in lane, sometimes in norms I will lose lane to the occasional misplaced gold/plat but other than that I don't lose lane. Only time I lose games in ranked is when my team feeds early and I get camped as a result, but if Nasus isn't banned I usually do very well that game. Learn one champion extremely well, learn some backups for each role. But it's better to focus entirely on mastering a single champion than trying to get good with a broad selection.

It is better but means you are diamond on one champion, technically even if you are great at other champs. I'm not saying high elo players who do that are bad, but it is easier. And i prefer a variety, but of course have comfort champs. I also hate meta picks.
