As a Malz player i would like to recommend Malzahar but Malzahar has a lot of weak match-ups, most of which are popular Meta picks. He is however a good pick against Zed though. I dont play Fizz so i cant speak much on that except that a lot of Fizz players are upset with his current gameplay. Neither is better then the other and neither bring more then the other to a team. They are separate champions and fill very very different roles.

Having said all that these are why i think Malzahar is a strong pick overall:

  • He has a Silence which is really good against caster-types. It also deals a good amount of damage and is capable of hitting multiple enemies.
  • His W deals %hp damage making it great when against tanks or people building tanky. When used with his R it becomes an incredibly deadly combo.
  • His E deals a lot of damage really fast even though it is a DoT. It also returns a small amount of Mana if it kills an enemy and can bounce between enemies. This makes it great for sustain, wave clearing/farming, poking enemies without them realizing it, and it has a very nice effect with his Voidlings. It is also great for last hitting champions who are escaping and in team fights it becomes extremely deadly for when they are grouped up.
  • His R is a suppress that deals DoT and can keep an enemy in place and out of a team fight. It also makes him an excellent 1v1 champions and when used with his W it can quickly kill any opponent.
  • His Voidlings are great for taking objectives as well specially when there is more then one.
  • His scalings and base damages are all decently high so even if you are forced into building slightly tankier, you are still capable of dishing out a lot of damage.
  • He has a lot of synergy with items like Liandry's Torment and Rylai's Crystal Scepter which offer great stats over all in addition to their passives.
  • He can also be built AD and still perform pretty well.

Now these are why Malzahar is not a Top-tier champion:

  • He is immobile, he has no mobility whatsoever and his only form of hard CC is his R which has no effect on his ability to escape anyways.
  • If not careful with his E, you can push to the enemy tower very easily which makes him easy to gank.
  • His Q has a 0.5 second delay, making it decently hard to hit a champion specially if they are mobile.
  • Despite his great scaling his R actually does not deal much damage on its own, almost requiring you to use your W and if possible E, to kill someone.
  • His mana costs early game are all really high, at late game there are all above 100 mana. Since it pretty much requires your full kit to kill someone you can run out of mana easily, if you fail to kill someone you are basically a sitting duck.
  • The R can easily be cancelled by almost any form of CC (i believe Root and Blind are the only two forms of CC that do not effect it) and due to its small cast time it can even be cancelled by CC that was cast at the same time or slightly after.
  • He can have a really tough time against champions that are highly mobile (such as LeBlanc or Lee Sin) and champions that out range him (such as Lux, Xerath, and Orianna).
  • This isnt really a point against Malzahar, but a lot of the time Teammates do not know how to react to you ulting someone. Most of the time they will attack the enemy you are ulting regardless of the situation. If you lose a team fight because of this they usually blame you even though it was their fault for jumping on an opponent who was already dead and wasting their abilities.

Malzahar requires a lot of time to get used to, specially when hitting his Q. Just remember your R by itself does not deal all that much damage, so always try to use it with the W. If you can try to throw on the E as well, but you can also use it after the suppress ends. Ignite can be used while ulting, but if they are out of range it will cancel the suppress, the same will happen if you try to cast an ability. The E can be used to farm, try not to overdo it though as it will quickly push the lane. It is really really important to ward when playing Malzahar, it is important to ward anyways but on Malzahar not warding will cost your flash or your life almost every single time.

Malz is an immobile mage who brings complete 100-0 potential to a team against any target. If he goes even, his full combo drops anyone to nothing.

And even then, his Q is a devastating AoE silence, able to shut down someone as they try to save their allies from getting dropped.

they both have large potential in different areas, so its hard to compare the two.

Malz has fairly high AOE damage, with a complete lockdown on a single target.

Fizz (before nerfs, not sure now) has some of the highest single target burst damage in the game.

both have great things to bring to the team, fizz's assasination potential, and malz's potentialy devistating aoe damage.

fizz pretty much garuentees one players death, but malz can potentially wipe out 50% of the enemy team's hp.

as your lvl 6 i would suggest malz though.... hes safer and easier to play. fizz is a little dive/trade heavy and those can be hard to master so early.
