PvP games almost never have a duo top. But, learning to support in the bot games can help, if you go support in the bottom lane against players. Vlad is not a very good support though. You want to set up combos with AP champs, basically dump everything on em for a kill. Check out sites like for tips on how to build your masteries/what to buy/tips on how to play the champ. (I've never actually played Vlad
As for support; your job is to keep the other one alive and well fed through the laning phase, then to help out the rest of the team until you win. In PvP it'll be an ADC (marksman), who pretty much just focuses on blowing people up. A support needs to focus on support masteries, if you're not a tank (tank masteries in that case obviously). Also, make sure you always take some armor/mag resist runes, cuz without them you're pretty much a free kill. Although, Don't worry about runes until you hit 20. Save up whatever IP you don't spend on champs for those. Tier 1 starts at 1, tier 2 starts at 10, tier 3 starts at 20, and its pretty much not worth it to waste IP when you're going to replace it all higher level (also, tier3 is expensive!). A support doesn't worry about damage (at least at first), they go with Crowd Control, and Utility.
Start with
or
( or
for a tank like
or
). Those are the support items. They keep you in money, which is a little less important for you than your laning buddy. NEVER TAKE CS (except with that tank support item, look at the details and you'll see what I'm talking about). It makes the ADC mad, and for good reason. They need money, cuz all the items they need to blow up people are usually more expensive than yours. It's okay if you kill one or two every now and again, or if they're out of lane, or if your tower's getting moshed, but the rule of thumb is Never Take Away CS. (CS = creep score by the way; it's just how many of the lil minions you kill, and it's one of the most important parts/the most important part of being in a kill lane.
Also, try never to take a champ kill. You always want to drop something on them, or your buddy, so you can get an assist, but kills do not matter to you. Assists matter. If you think they're going to get away, and you can get the kill for sure, go ahead. If your aoe's take a few kills, not a big deal. Some ADC's get super butthurt about it, but most understand. The thing is, the ADC needs all the kills they can get so they're late game doesn't get shut down. If you start stealing that, even though you may turn out awesome, your team can lose over something like that. It's also bad form.
As for wards; in bots, they're pretty much a non-issue, but it's a very good idea to drop them anyway, for practice.
is the one you want to start with. I'll usually drop that for a
. <---- that is a sweeper; it shows you wards so you can kill em. They take 3 hits to kill, give you gold, and shut down enemy vision. If you have a champ that has a quick attack button (
or
's Q) you can: 1. Hit the ward. 2. Pop the Q while in midswing (takes timing and practice). 3. Watch your Q hit, followed by an autoattack, killing the ward before it can disappear. Aside from the obvious advantages of that, it totally makes you look like an all star!
Still not done with wards.
This is a sightstone. It's probably the single most important support item. If you don't want to buy it, don't play support. You can just upgrade that original ward, but you're usually better off with a sweeper. Also, ANYONE on the bad team can go invisible, upgrade that sweeper the second you hit 9. An upgraded sweeper lets you see invis people, and the first time you play against a fed
you'll see my point.
That is a standard ward, just like the one you can get for free at start.
that is one that they can see if they stand on it; but: 1. It stays put until they kill it. 2. It shows nearby wards so you can kill them. 3. If you don't have one down at all times, you're doing it wrong (that may be an exaggeration, but it's a good rule of thumb. Also, you can only have 1 down at a time btw). Wards totally win games (not bots, but again, practice makes perfect). No lie. The kill lanes need to focus on kill items. Drop them in bushes, or anywhere you need to see. You can also drop them over walls. NEVER approach a bush to ward it without being prepared to take an asskicking, because if they're hiding in there you're probably dead. Wards show you where people are, give clues to where they're going, expose badguys that are caught out alone. Look at some of the mobafire guides on support; a lot of them have maps that show the best wards placement. Keep a pink ward at dragon (early) and baron (late) because you need to know if the badguys are hitting that. Nothing better than shutting down a team in one of those pits, and stealing away that big monster kill. Nothing worse than rolling into that pit and having 5 people beat the stuffing out of you cuz you didn't ward.
As for buying stuff: You generally want to go back after 500g if you're pushed your minions close to their tower and they're not going to kill yours before you get back. By all means, keep going if you're ahead. Anyway, you generally want to upgrade that support item to the next tier ASAP. Once that's out of the way, GET A SIGHTSTONE!!!!!! (
) If you can't afford it, get the prerequisite
and come back when you have 400 more gold. Get boots the first time you're back with less than 400g, or after you've got the upgrade sup item and a sightstone.
As for the boot upgrade; generally get
unless you're getting smacked around. If they have 2 or more AP, or if you're getting CC'd out the ass, get
. If they have no AP, get
. That's my preference, but you may feel better off with a different boot choice for whatever reason. Also, I really like the homeguard enchantment, but feel free to try out the others as needed. Once you have that out of the way, buy up the rest of the items your character will need. Buying stuff is a big part of the game. You generally have a core set that each character does best with, but a huge part of the game is seeing what you're up against, and buying the right thing to shut down the badguy's advantage. Keep in mind, you can see what everyone bought with TAB.
Once you drop your lane's tower, go ahead and start moving around. Help the other lanes kill towers and pick up kills. Support is a team position; you're not just 1 person's butler/maid. That said; don't leave them in the lurch too early. Babysit that ADC until somewhere around level 10, and then just look for opportunities to make your team more awesome than they already are. Learn to ping (hold control, then drag your mouse to the right ping), and communicate as much as you can. If you don't see the badguys in your lane, ping ?. If you're going to go drop a ward and come back, just do a quick ping there. If you see a gank squad heading for a teammate, or other signs of danger, drop that ! ping. Most players are more than happy to drop some knowledge on you if you ask. If you're not sure who to target, ask them, and they'll generally let you know.
Most of that is for PvP. Bots are for learning. You can pretty much get away with doing anything that pops in your head, and still win a bot game. Make sure you try out every one of the free champs for the week. Even if they're lame. If nothing else, you'll see ways to exploit them when you're on a character you love. Also, you may find a champ that you never knew you'd love. People are pretty nice for the most part in bots (except for the
that kills everything the second it spawns, because getting 50 kills in a bot game is soooooooo important). Normals and especially ranked are full of toxic people.
Toxic people suck. They're going to steal your concentration, your confidence, and your will. Don't let them. Mute them, and report them at the end of the game. Don't get sucked in, because that's just what they want (I struggle with that a lot). Players don't get punished for 1 report, so don't worry about them reporting you back. Bans and such come after trends of being a total dick to people over a period of time. If they ever bother you too bad, go to the Miscellaneous part of the boards, and read their posts crying about how they got chat banned even though they were totes justified in their bad behavior. Don't let them discourage you; at the end of the day, you get to look in the mirror and see your face. They have to break all the mirrors in their house so they don't have to see the horrible little shit looking back at them. Pity them, for they're missing out on one of the greatest parts of the human experience. The only thing better than a person brightening your day, is to brighten someone else's (also, you totally get all of their karma points added to yours).
Read the summoner's code, and live it. As long as you follow that, you'll be fine.
Anyway, about Vlad. Are you aware that vampires suck? Also, that they're a threat to the living and should be hunted down, and that not showing them mercy is considered a good thing cuz abominations don't get basic civil liberties?
=P
For real tho; I wouldn't support with him. I'd go super kill mode, and eat faces. Because in Bots, it don't really matter. But, when you step into PvP, DON'T support with him. You may want to look at
. She's sort of like a vampire, and has the prettiest hair in game. She can go all out and murder people, but she's also one of the best supports if you want to play it that way. That's just my opinion.
Here are some of my favorite supports (aside from my main in the previous paragraph)
. Or, just do what everyone else does, and pick Thresh.
Sorry for the book! I'm almost out of space. Have fun!
