For reference

So, I was trying out maoki for the first time in pvp, no one wanted to jungle so I tried him out. Early on was great I was able to gank all 3 lanes successfully, I built a spirit golem with a visage, i noticed that we never had wards, so I decided that I'll buy a sightstone instead of spending so much gold on wards i'll get a little health and some rechargeable wards. My Sejuani thought otherwise and let me know it throughout the game that I am a fkin #$%! (I have the filter turned on so insert profanity there).

We had no vision ever, I didnt want to get caught in my jungle; no one else was making a real effort to ward. I'm sure I could have used it to buy maybe some other item, but the reality is I wasn't getting melted by their vayne when ever I dove in, and even when 3 of us dove her lulu and her team were able to keep her alive, meanwhile our lucian and ahri would attack their sejuani resulting in 3 of us getting cc'ed and killed and eventually them as well.

He/she tried to pin our whole loss on my inability to kill vayne and buying the sightstone was the reason I couldn't take her down, and that I'm a fkin #$%!.

I don't understand why I never see it being used, or why I have to take harassment from various other players if if I buy one. The only lane where I havn't bought one on a character in pvp is when I play ashe, ive used it in the middle before when the other team had an aggressive jungler.

This is the third time ive had this happen by some random person who thinks they are gods gift to league of legend. Why is there a constant need for these people to do this. This same guy would try to jump in and 1v3 because someone was at low health, and he would end up dying forcing us to fight an eventual 4v5.

As a support main who struggles to keep the vision game strong, you are now my favourite jungler.

lol people flame you for buying a sight stone? facepalm good job man, good job using your head, and buying a sight stone when you're not a support, i take my hat off to you.. a lvl 12 using his brain... seriously bro, it may come across as sarcastic, but what you did was good.... i'm logging into my account just to add you as a friend hahah

I am so sorry. I praise my jungler to high hell when he buys a sightstone. Pls dont stop.

Featherztorm11/4/2014, 10:13:03 AM29 votes

Ditto. Those fuckers just don't understand smart play. You'll do just as fine with Sightstone as you would with another tanky item in that slot, and then some, as you'll be providing your team with wards.

kDrakari11/4/2014, 2:26:07 PM22 votes

I would never flame somebody for getting a sightstone, especially a jungler. (though I don't really flame at all so that might not mean much).

That said, even though sightstone does pay for itself eventually (fairly quickly if you're using it right) there's a reason it's not bought by every player on every champion in every role, and that's because it slows down your build. Supports build it because champions are chosen for support on the grounds of not really needing stats, but for everyone else dumping 800 gold for 150 HP means you'll be a lot less powerful than someone else who just spent 225 to buy three wards and put the rest into their main build. Certain junglers don't mind that, for example Lee Sin has really powerful early game damage without stats and gets extra advantages from being able to use the wards for jumps. But on everybody else buying a sightstone means you're less powerful than you could be in a fight for at least your next three backs.

Level 1-20ish don't really understand the importance of wards IMO. As you get further into the game, you'll see these particular people less and less.

Also a jungler that knows how to ward is amazing as far as I'm concerned. (And was this Sej the support? Because nobody has any utility items [or wards] and she's the likeliest candidate.) As a support main, I've learned more about warding from good junglers in three ranked games than I have in a year of playing normals.

As far as how to stop it, mute and report. It sucks but eventually it'll stop.

To be honest, every player should probably buy a sightstone.

I'm being serious. I was once similarly flamed by my own friends for buying a sightstone on Twitch when I had already completed my full damage-y ADC build. Health bonus is negligible compared to other items, sure, but they didn't seem to understand the importance of wards, as I was the only one warding on the entire map.

My team may have won multiple teamfights because of my warding, but they DARED not to appreciate the Twitch that didn't buy an infinity edge like they wanted (which I would have been fine at that point without it. item 3085 item 3072 item 3153item 3087 item 3006 were already in my inventory, and I was already belting out enough damage to melt down the squishier targets on their team in a few seconds)

Perhaps if Riot implemented different types of sightstones for different positions, people my be willing to buy them more often. (There's a thread around here somewhere that says this...)

TehNACHO11/4/2014, 4:27:46 PM11 votes

The Jungle Tank is buying Sightstone? Holy crap dude, if I played with you, I would love the hell out of you.

Don't let it bring you down bro, for every scrub that hates you, there are three other players on your team that more than likely appreciate your wards in at least some way.

BasilShadowreave11/4/2014, 9:53:27 PM6 votes

What you have done is one of the smartest things you can do in game. If you are the only one bothering to ward, sightstone is infinitely useful. Not only that but you can upgrade to ruby sightstone for even more health. You are awesome and I would love to play a game with you sometime.

Der Lindwurm11/4/2014, 4:09:47 PM5 votes

I got flamed for firing an arrow while I was playing Ashe once.

People are flaming idiots. You can't let it bother you.

TheTyeGuy11/4/2014, 8:57:31 PM4 votes

People will use any excuse for losing as long as they can convince themselves it isn't their fault.

Worgslarg11/4/2014, 1:43:24 PM4 votes

If you place 11 wards with your sightstone, you have already payed for its gold value. If you place more than that, it was well worth buying. While I am not a fan of it on anyone other than supports, that is simply it's poor stat value lategame.

BADxW0LF11/4/2014, 6:37:46 PM4 votes

Support and jungler should always buy sightstone imo. They are the main roles in charge of map vision and everyone else uses their trinket if they keep it (support and jungler always get sweeping lens after sightstone).

Rhyto11/4/2014, 11:23:37 PM4 votes

Dude, we are bros now. as a Support Main totally respect you.

Donèt listen to that guy, what youre doing is eons ahead of the elo youre currently in.

OmniMoto11/4/2014, 11:20:19 PM3 votes

First of all, THANK YOU. YOU MEAN SO MUCH TO THE LEAGUE COMMUNITY (I am not being sarcastic, you noticed there were no wards, and bought a sightsone, thats fantastic, you're awesome man <3). Secondly, just ignore the guy, there is a wonderful thing known as a mute button, and it was made for ignorant people like him/her.

soulbanana811/4/2014, 8:06:16 PM3 votes

A tank jungler buys sightstone and gets flamed at for buying it despite the fact that the rest of your team had no wards whatsoever? What kind of people are you playing with?

StOrmysLIVE11/4/2014, 9:48:58 PM2 votes

Nah, if your whole team did not ward, you bought a good item. Just remember people are going to shit talk, whether they are actually good, or if they are playing in wood 5.

Skia Asteri11/4/2014, 4:56:29 PM2 votes

Considering how few wards the rest of your team placed, that was the correct choice. You might should have traded out your ward trinket for a sweeper lens to get rid of the other team's wards though after getting a sight stone.

If you look up replays of the Worlds this season, you will see that the junglers sometimes get sightstone even if the support has one and is using it. Also happens in high level soloQ ranked games.

I have got a sight stone as a jungler before, though it is uncommon for me. In other positions I will at least upgrade my trinket if we need more vision (even before full build).

Aozora11/4/2014, 8:10:26 PM2 votes

People are flaming others for keeping vision on the map? Flaming a support jungler, no less? Sheer stupidity. Even as an ADC main, I buy at least 1 green or pink whenever I back so we can keep vision on the map. Wards don't matter to the dumbasses that have no map awareness. Pay them no attention.

Squirvizard11/4/2014, 5:56:08 PM2 votes

Then that sejuani is a retard, and is likely in "elo hell", what a scrub.

PukinRainbows11/4/2014, 9:10:31 PM2 votes

Yeah, that's pretty ridiculous XD I mean sure, if you're adc (sorry marksmen :P) or an ap burster, then yes sightstone isn't a great item for you, but if your team isn't purchasing ward, and getting vision of the enemy, sightstones are great. Vision allows for safer play, and easy picks on overly aggressive enemies. So don't worry about them haters :) keep playing like a smart league player

SladeXD11/5/2014, 6:08:24 PM2 votes

I salute you sir. Thank you for being the Good Guy jungler and keeping vision up when the rest of your team didn't. You the real MVP.

OblongOtter11/5/2014, 4:37:05 PM1 votes

The funny part is that it is actually pretty good on Mao, since he's a supporty jungler.

Qwandee11/5/2014, 4:54:23 PM1 votes

all i hear is blah blah blah bought sightstone on maokai cuz bad vision... And then all my brain told me was herderrderr i have a golem and a trinket.... and saplings.... lets just go buy more vision control and waste 800 gold instead of picking up a pink ward...

I can't believe everyone on here seriously thinks that's a good thing to do .... Unless you're in a ranked 5s team where you can communicate with everyone that's literally a waste of gold.

you can get 8 pink wards for a sightstone that'll provide you wayyyyyyyyyyyyyy more vision control than a sightstone actually would. and buying two pinks gives as much control as a whole sighstone for the first like 20 minutes of game or more.. and it wont set you behind on your core items... Man people are just so bronze sometimes. Yeah vision control is good... but not if you're going to set behind your core build for something you can secure with 200 gold worth of pinks.

you can only have 3 wards on the map... Golem and trinket give you 2 ... you're literally spending 800 gold for 1 ward. and you dont even need it cuz you have saplings you can scout with... if anything you needed a sweeper and pinkwards.

DrinkMoreWhiskey11/5/2014, 5:03:12 PM1 votes

Honestly sightstone is a bad buy. Not flame worthy bad, but by no means good. It's a double problem.

If you're at a low enough ELO that you're needing to compensate that bad ward wise, it's not just placing wards it's remembering to place them and if people are even watching the map. Both your lack of optimal use combined with people not paying attention anyway devalue the wards.

If you're aware enough to use your sightstone effectively you're prob at a high enough ELO where you're teams warding anyway and dueling \ countergank power is going to be more valuable.

Buying wards will almost always be a better solution on either side of the coin.

DaBawesome1/20/2015, 10:26:11 PM1 votes

no! buying the sight stone was the right and efficient call. the jungle is the scout of the team and that means wards that costs money. but with item 2049 wards its free money after the 10th ward. As an adc that understands the vision game i often out ward my support. my last game i out warded my team. but frustrations aside you as a jungle that sight stone will more then pay for itself. get it. if some one is blame ing their death on you doing your job right they are the idiots not you.

warpenguin55511/5/2014, 8:04:54 PM1 votes

why rage about that? Lucian clearly fed her. And sight stone is a nice idea, i should try that

chescatt11/5/2014, 11:03:50 PM1 votes

In a game where vision is as important as it is, I don't see how anything could be considered wrong with it...Especially if no one else is dropping wards...

Auturgist11/6/2014, 9:10:57 AM1 votes

Sightstone on a jungler is fine if you want to farm safely, invade to get deep vision, or help ensure your lanes avoid being ganked. Really, unless you are in a rush to build certain items for power spike, there's no reason you should ever be berated for providing your team with vision on the map, and only terrible players who don't pay attention to it will not thank you for doing so. Sadly, there are a lot of those in this game...

Baval11/5/2014, 4:21:20 PM1 votes

If you were using it consistantly, then it was just a stupid team. League is like 80% metasheep at least. Build the mobafire build or get reported lol. Just ignore them if you have a build that works better, I can see the logic of making a sightstone.
