Doesn't really change the fact that getting less items than other people feels absolutely miserable and that the one gold piece within that little lootbox reminds you that if Riot actually listened to the playerbase, it could've just been an item. Doesn't really matter what item it could be, it would've been way more useful than one or two pieces of pity gold. And it is frustrating to play with an item disparity because deep down it just doesn't feel fair whether you're on the winning side or losing side. I'm not saying that there's no skill involved within TFT, but for the most part it doesn't make sense to have the game set up to where someone genuinely is playing at a handicap from the first three neutral rounds. I mean maybe they'll get lucky the next neutral waves, or maybe they won't. Maybe others will have bad luck too. But the thing is, Riot could easily and I do mean EASILY fix this by having fixed item drops. I don't care if I get 8 tears in a single game, what matters is that I have a better chance at working with that than with 8 pity coins.
The only defense for this is the usual "Well one gold could buy you x which would snowball you". Items do that better than one or two gold pieces do, easily so. When it comes down to it, items will determine whether that swain you bought is going to survive long enough to ult or get burned down almost instantly. Yes, team composition matters. Yes, having good units matter. However, items literally elevate champions from just simply good to great or just downright disgusting.
It's not just about getting to fourth place with what you got, it's about actually enjoying the game and not feeling handicapped when you're not getting items. Personally I don't feel like I've won until I won won, not just reached 4th place. Like great, it doesn't count as a loss and I got LP, but am I enjoying the game? Did I feel like my chances of winning were the same as everybody else's from the get go? The item drop RNG literally is an anti-fun mechanic that needs to be fixed so that people, casuals or hardcores, feel like their chances of winning are just as high as everybody elses.
