Why do you think TFT is so popular?

I think it's because:

You don't have teammates! All the trolls/inters/afkers/ragers etc have absolutely no effect on your game. You can carry yourself to victory! Feels good.
RNG = satisfies your gambling itch.
You don't have to play constantly to adapt to patches/metas.
You don't have to win every game to rank up.
You can do other stuff while playing (eat/smoke/watch stuff/text people etc), no 2 hands required.
There's going to be weekly patches I think? So a lot of new content/new champs & items to try out.

TFT is amazing and the update has been a lot of fun so far, even with the bugs/balance issues.

New Toy syndrome and riot treating it like theyre game geniuses that invented it themselves despite admitting they stole it from DotA wholesale.

once the updates stop coming, the developers don't pay as much attention on it (esp. with Worlds coming up) and people get frustrated with the game, as they are Always going to do, they'll drop like flies and it'll die off just like URF.

It's triggering people's gambling addictions.

It has a literal slot machine in it, just without the lever and spinning animations.

I agree with literally everything you said.

I'm having so much fun with this game! Haters be damned!

The real issue with TFT is that it fails to adopt staple elements in the genre PURPOSELY to create more a disparity between those with good RNG and those with bad RNG with the item drops. The bugs are also pretty gamebreaking. If TFT can become as polished as Underlords and if the devs really focus on changing the game for the better, MAYBE I'll consider TFT again.

Right now, Riot is just sorta shooting themselves in the foot with the direction that they're going in.

We have no statistics to conclude the game is popular...

Easy answer. ARAM was destroyed by balance changes. TT is removal-worthy for years. NB was removed. Rotating game modes are gone for like half a year. And peoples are getting sick of SR because of this high damage burst meta and stupid balance changes each patch and new champions and reworks that are overloaded af as always. I am certainly disgusted from SR and despite TFT is heavily RNG based, if you are in elo you worth into SR is just as coinflip than TFT is.

one reason is auto chess being the new hot genre, and simply adding an auto chess using a top moba characters will attract players to play it a lot.

It's new, it has built in gambling, and you can blame RNG when you lose.

I think the idea of the auto chess games is just great and I'm surprised they haven't come along before. They feel like the perfect combination of TCGs like Magic or Hearthstone and traditional card games like Poker. They are incredibly simple to understand but still show alot of room for mastery.

And now that I'm thinking about it I would be surprised if Blizzard or Wizards didn't release their own take on the more with Hearthstone or Magic as a base.
