My honest feedback upon reaching Plat III in TFT

Now before I start I must mention that I dont know which rank would be considered ''high elo'' in TFT but I noticed a massive drop in the LP received once I reached Plat so I decided it was a good moment to take a break and talk a bit about the game in general.

To start this off, I'll say that I myself have complained in these same boards about TFT being bullshit and too RNG based just a couple days ago. However, after putting a good amount of hours into playing ranked and adapting my strategies and gameplay to whatever I'm given in a certain game, I can safely say that the RNG in TFT is much less of a determining factor than your understanding of the game and your adaptability.

When I started playing the game, some friends got me into it and taught me the very basics. I saw them always trying to get recurve bow in the first carousel at all costs and started doing the same thinking recurve bow is the best item there is (which is kinda true though) until I ran into several games in which I couldnt grab any bow at the beginning and was forced into other options. Thats when I started trying out other combinations and adapting my playstyle to the items and champions I'm given. If I can grab recurve bow I'll go for a Rageblade or a Cursed Blade, but if I cant lay my hands on it I can just go for other options like Solari, Redemption or Zeke's Herald, which for some reason people dont seem to take them enough into account. Those defensive items have given me more victories than any other offensive item in the game.

The point I'm trying to get across is that regardless of your RNG you can always work something out in TFT, youre always given everything you need to build a competitive strategy. And honestly, I dont get why people complain about the amount of items that people are given. I almost always see every person in the game with the same amount of items by the end of the wolf neutral camp stage. It is true that you dont always get the same amount of items as other people from the get go but it eventually evens out. Not getting the items at the beginning means you'll need to play a more defensive playstyle and adapt your champions to survive long enough to get whatever you need. I've had a lot of games in which I lost like 7-8 rounds in a row until eventually my build comes online and start to wreck everybody. It's all about timing your pacing correctly and controling the tides of the battle. That, of course, doesnt mean you can reach top 4 in every single game. In my last 20 games or so, I managed to stay top 4 really consistently but there are times in which you really dont get the champs or items you need soon enough and end up losing and there is really nothing to do about it. But that type of RNG is present in everything in life.

In conclusion, I think TFT gives you the same chances of success as Summoners Rift games, if not more since you dont depend on other people. In Summoners Rift you have your games conditioned by the people you play with but if you are consistently good and play better than everybody in your respective league you'll end up climbing regardless of the monkeys you are matched with. Same goes for TFT, RNG might make you lose some games but being consistently good means you'll climb.

Oh and before I forget, if you think you are getting shitty champions in the shop all the time, follow the wise advice of our lord of fortune Twisted Fate: ''Only a fool plays the hand he's dealt''. So go reroll all your gold. [slayer-pantheon-thumbs]

Well stated, and much deserving of upvotes. I imagine the downvote train is coming since most people I've exchanged with completely miss your experience. They're kidnapping themselves and getting Stockholm Syndrome.

What people don't seem to understand is that the elements of RNG are out there to keep the general winrate at 50% and the top three slot designations as close to even as possible so that people who do make the best decisions given the situation will more likely land top three slots more often than average.

I've also found more that when I am losing the game, it's because the game feels like it wants me to lose. I say that because the games I lose are the games I get one path for a couple turns, then another path for a couple turns, then a mix of paths for a couple turns, so I can never specialize and find a good strategy. And even when I force myself to focus on one or two, I still get nothing to complete the build.

Sure, I am also making decisions that aren't working, but in general, when I lose, it feels like I am being forced into it. And if that's only happening 1 in 10 games, it makes sense even if it's annoying.

The thing that's frustrating me:

Most games people are mimicking me. After they see a theme developing and I'm either doing an early loss strategy or winning outright, they do everything they possibly can to buy the exact same champions as me, and by the time they do this, there's no leniency in abandoning your build for something else.

My last game: I was the only one who started off Glacial. One started off Demon, and the rest generally started off Gunslinger/Pirate/Imperial.

By round 12 or so, 5 different people were Glacial, including the demon player, who kept a Varus/Morgana, but ran glacial on top of it.

When I run Yordle, the same.

When I run noble, the same.

I guess most people don't have problems with the generally RNG (champs/type of items) in the game. I don't see much complain about that.

They just have a problem with getting 0 items while other getting 6 items.

Sorry, but this is BS. Players can receive double or even triple the amount of items of other players. A player with 1 Redemption is at a horrible disadvantage against a player with 2 Redemptions. Any strategy you attempt to employ will be at the mercy of RNG, and it will often not give you enough tools to complete it. If strategy were the key factor in winning games, then it should be possible to win with only 1 star champions or minimum items, but we both know that isn't true in both cases unless everyone has the same bad luck.

{quoted} Not getting the items at the beginning means you'll need to play a more defensive playstyle and adapt your champions to survive long enough to get whatever you need.

Excuse me, but adapt with what? You can't build a fort without tools or supplies. What are you going to do against the player using a defensive or similar playstyle to yours but with a large item advatange?
