TFT Item RNG vs DAC RNG
I am seeing so many people complaining about Item RNG in this game, and I don't understand why that's such a huge issue.
MY OPINION:
People are misunderstanding how games like Auto Chess or TFT work.
I think the point of the RNG is that you are supposed to play the hand you are dealt to the best of your ability. Sometimes, your hand absolutely sucks, and someone else's is godlike. That's the point of the game.
Auto Chess is a lot like Poker. You play whatever you get. Yes, sometimes, you will flop a triple. Sometimes, you will flop absolute garbage and end up with just a high card.
This means that it's possible that a poker master like Daniel Negreanu can be knocked out of a tournament by me, an amateur, because I manage to hit the most incredible flush on the river to beat out his straight. That's not through any fault of his own. He lost because I was luckier. That's exactly how Poker is supposed to work.
But it's incredibly unlikely right? Anyone who pits me against any pro poker player will automatically assume that I will lose. It's the same with Auto Chess. You pit me (Bishop DAC player) against someone like Tabzz (Queen) or Yostairs (Queen) or TidesofTime (High Rook/Queen), then you will expect me to lose. There is enough skill in the game that the RNG balances out.
It's frustrating when a good player loses to someone who gets crazy lucky, that's completely understandable. However, if you completely remove every aspect of RNG from the game, then it's not as fun to play anymore, because suddenly there's an "optimal" way to play, and you won't really need to do anything differently or play any other comp. The skill will suddenly be how well you mange your economy to allow for rerolls. Positioning won't matter (it will always be the same because the comp you're playing is the same), the units won't matter (you always pick the same units because you are getting the same comp every time), synergies don't matter, etc.
Because there's RNG, every player is forced to play the best they can with whatever they get, even if it sucks. DAC exploded because of how incredibly different every single game is. One game you can win hardcore by running Demons/Warriors, and the next you can get absolutely stomped because someone ran Knights/Trolls.
That is why the game is so fun. It's fun to win, and it's fun to be the most skilled player and beat everyone else by building a superior comp.
But what makes it so much more fun is the fact that you can hit the jackpot. Sometimes, you can be rolling absolutely horribly, but manage to land that one unit, or one item, that carries you and lets you win with 1 HP. Sometimes, you are doing so well, and then you roll crazy well, and you hit a ton of items. You then proceed to dominate the game and never drop a round. It happens. Other times, you will get nothing good, roll terrible units all game, and lose first because you simply can't beat the RNG other people have. That's just part of the game.
I, for one, really like the item RNG. Going up against someone who hit the motherload is exciting for me, because it presents a challenge. Can I beat this guy? Can I overcome the odds? Does this guy know how to manage his units properly to avoid losing to my comp? Can I build a comp that can counter this guy's items? What if I hit really good items next? Can I place my items on more optimal champs than his items?
Again, this is just my opinion. Let me know what you think.
