TFT theroycrafting (builds, and ideas)

Disclaimer: There is no correct play style in a game with many options and RNG. So this is not a guide more a discussion of builds, ideas to improve gameplay, and maybe some tips and tricks.

TLDR: If you just want to see my build skip the first few paragraphs on economy and early-mid game planning and there will be a big gap, below will be my build.

Terms(For those who do not know): RNG: Random Number Generator(in short random chance) AOE: Area of Effect(Spells that hit in a large area, rather than just one target) FON: Force of Natureitem 4401 HP: Health Points Build: A list of units that comprises a composition/team in Team Fight Tactics. Transition Unit: A unit you can use early, that is easy to rank up. You can sell it later for a core unit. Core Unit: Your end goal, at rank one they are hard to put in but if you hold on to them and rank them up eventually everything comes together.

To start lets talk economy. As it stands the current meta is the roll meta. Basically buy rarity 1 units as you see them and build them into rank 2 units. and continue to do so until they are rank 3 units and then have them carry you to late game. While this is an effective strategy for getting win streaks and progressing early, if everyone is doing it then we wind up with a random game based on who gets the better luck.

I however propose a different strategy, one that is less luck dependent but requires the use of HP as a resource. To some this may be common sense but to maintain an economy and get to your final build can be tricky. To start yes there is rolling, there is buying of rarity 1 units and so on but instead of going all in all the time. Set milestones and build an economy, reducing the hp you lose and focus on building your ideal composition in the background.

(This part is my game style and based on my build, once again not a guide just sharing to provide insight some might of missed)

For me at the start I am looking for 8 items which is generally hard to get but once again this is a goal not something to be forced all the time. Ideally you want 3 Bowsitem 1043 , 1 Needlessly Large Roditem 1058 , 1 BF sworditem 1038 and a Negatron Cloakitem 1057 . These six are for your carry and can be moved so do not hesitate to invest them on someone you plan to sell(This will make more sense later). They will build a Rage Bladeitem 3124 , a Blood Thirsteritem 3072 , and a Rapid Fire Cannonitem 3094 . As for the other two I tend to like to either try for another Needlesslyitem 1058 and Tearitem 3070 for a Luden's Echoitem 3285 if I can get to the point where I have a spell caster with AOE. Or a Tearitem 3070 and a Chain Vestitem 1031 for a Frozen Heartitem 3110 .

So at the start of the game needing three bows as is tradition, you should aim for the bow. Mind you this is unlikely because everyone else already wants them too.

Next let's talk about surviving and transitioning. Early on you should follow the meta, do not roll a lot only roll for power spikes(getting a unit to rank 2), grab all the 1 rarity units you can, and aim to make any 4-5 rank 2 heroes you can. This is what is going to carry you through the early game, once your board is full of rank two units and maybe a extra on the bench you should look to start building your economy. For economy milestones I look to have 20 gold by Golems and 50 gold by Wolves. Keep an eye on your interest and how much your are spending. You need to decide which is worth more, getting a synergy bonus by putting in a core unit for a transition unit or having higher rarity units to help you push through. Once at 50 gold you need to weigh the benefits, think, how much health do you have left, are any core units about to upgrade, are you getting close to a three star transition unit that will keep you going. Ideally if you health is fine, nothing is about to upgrade and there is nothing you want for purchase, than you should be spending your excess gold down to 50 on leveling until you are level 8(or if you are winning you can push for 9).

Finally, for the end of the basics of gameplay let me provide you with my build. You should not try and force a build every game, and again if you are given the units go for it but remember other builds are out there and if too may people go for the same things no one wins.

This is the best build I have come up with so far, to include the most synergy, and with reasonably easy units to get.

GarenGaren , DariusDarius , FioraFiora , GravesGraves , LucianLucian , GangplankGangplank , DravenDraven , Miss FortuneMissFortune , Shen?Shen (Could fill in if you have a FON or level 9 he will get blade master and ninja)

With this comp, if you build all of the heroes you end up with: Gunslinger: 4 Nobles: 3 Knight: 2 Pirates: 3 Blade Master: 3 Imperial: 2 Ninja: 1(with FON or level 9) With no unused synergy. I put the carry items on Draven ideally, and the Frozen heart on Garen or Luden's Echo on Gangplank Also if you are losing to much health, Lucian is a great alternative to putting the carry items on Draven.

Thoughts, improvements, suggested changes? Let me know, also if you want include a build in your post and we can use this thread to theory craft builds and strategies for TFT.

Let's keep complaining about bugs, gameplay or RNG in general to a minimum, there are other places to discuss them.

You have too much carries, bad frontlane and even Fiora... So you fall off on the lategame with your comp, for me is C-D tier (example: maybe you are really lucky to get 3 stars Garen and Darius but then maybe you won't have Fiora and Graves at 3 stars). If you really want Draven I think it's better the version of the comp you are using with shapeshifters, wild and imperials, so you get Swain and Draven that are S tier.

Anyway, here is a better version of the one you are using: Tristana (look for 3 star) Graves (look for 3 star) Miss Fortune Gangplank

Now yow get good frontlanes for lategame like Sejuani, Leona-Braum and Cho. You need to focus to put items on Tristana, MF and maybe Graves.

I hope it helps.

Imo, Tristana is actually a little underrated, even as a Tier 1 champ. Her AoE is nutty, in particular. SoS, Shiv (or Ludens) and Runaan's is on her almost a critical mass of AoE. Get that to lv3, and you can spam plenty of bombs and autos while every 3rd attack splashes.

Adding full gunslinger (recommend Lucian, GP, MF, but Graves is probably easier to get) means you get even more AoE damage. And if you can get full gunslinger early (with graves, before MF) it's insanely strong for most of the game.

I'd say they pair best with either Glacial, Void or Wild. Though Knights give you a good defensive frontline and if you keep all 3 of the Pirates in your gunslinger comp, that's just free gold.

For that build I was aiming at the most synergy I could fit in, without wasting any. As far as I know most builds end up with a unused synergy due to not having space to fit extra units in to fill the gaps. But I also understand it requires a decent amount of luck on both items and champion RNG. The comp is generally weak against glacial and assassins. Also can have issues against yordle sorc if you do not have the RFC.
