TFT is not a Strategy Game?

Spent the week playing TFT and the amount of strategy compared to luck with RNG is laughable. It's like calling Blackjack a strategy game.

Certainly, it's possible to build a strategy based off the luck of your first few draws, but beyond that, it's entirely dependent on RNG, regardless of your plan/strategy. If you're positing this as a strategy game, then please give players more options to actually create and execute strategy.

I fail to see how a ranked mode in TFT makes any more sense than a ranked mode in ARAM, as the randomness in both is the overriding theme. The frustration alone is off-putting, and winning doesn't exactly feel satisfying, knowing you're likely to get 8th place the next time you play, purely because of bad RNG.

Blackjack does have strategy. There are literally books written on it.

Just because a game has high variance, doesn't mean there isn't strategy involved. Yes, sometimes you will lose because of variance. Sometimes you'll beat a better player because of it. Over the long run, a better player will finish with more wins (or at least more positive finishes), because they understand how to deal with the variance and adjust. And if you're good, you aren't that likely to finish in 8th.

It may just not be for you. Some of us like our high variance games. It's why we play poker, or Magic, or Hearthstone, or a million other high variance games. Some people don't. They play chess, and other boring games. You may just be one of those people.

You're right, it isn't strategy; it's actually a tactical game. This isn't a joke or pun about the name, there is a difference between strategy and tactics, and the game is thus aptly named.

Strategy is long term, a plan laid out.

Tactics are done on a more immediate level, devised and executed according to the situation at hand.

In TFT, you don't start with a specific build in mind, because you may not get what you need for that particular strat and trying to force it can cause you to lose very hard more often than succeed.

A huge beginner's mistake when jumping into TFT is thinking that you just shoot for 1st place, and if you can't get that you lost, and you either suck or just got screwed by RNG (or alternatively, those who get first were just lucky). Due to the significant amount of RNG in the game, you aren't just relying on luck to hit 1st, you are trying to get in the top 4 spots more often than not over many games (or whatever place nets you +LP).

You're definitely subject to good and bad luck, but you're able to mitigate the RNG, so that's what you're trying to do the entire game. You maximize your chances to get what you need through tactics such as buying up all Cost X champs before rerolling if you're looking for a specific Cost X, and deciding when leveling up is better for immediate power on the field or is more efficient for rolling for higher cost champs.

There are a lot of subtle things about the game to improve your odds of winning despite the RNG, you just have to do some research and learn from skilled players, and practice yourself.

to win at blackjack you watch the cards that are dealt and you simply count them. most blackjack dealers use 4 52 card decks and are auto shuffled by a machine. your chances of getting the exact same hand is nearly impossible. by varying your bets you can pull a profit. you sir do not understand the concept of card games or at the very least are misinformed.

It's like calling Blackjack a strategy game.

You're right, it is. Because both are. Didn't even bother reading the rest of your post based on your understanding of games with rng elements in them.

Blackjack is very strategic, especially if you are serious and count cards.. Tons of skill involved. RNG can get ya still but your education can help turn the odds in your favor.. Same w/ tft.. Lots of rng but your knowledge can turn that garbage rng into a win..
