Titanic Hydra, Berserkers, Glacials, Olaf etc.
Hello, I'm a casual TFT player, so I don't play ranked games ( I played some up until silver ) and I much prefer to explore the combinations that the game mode can offer ( which are lots! ) even at the cost of losing many games.
The thing that I like most about TFT and I'm sure many will agree is the possibility to create **endless **types of team compositions with **whatever carries **you want, and whatever Item builds you can think of. But not all comps are as viable... I know very well that not every silly comp that I could think of must be as viable as every other comp. But it's undeniable that some comps perform better than others. There are also some sort of counters between the standard comps but that's not a major issue.
In the last two matches I had, I was lucky enough to test what in my opinion are one of the two "highest potential" scenarios for
, an Item often overlooked and definitely not as popular as say
or
. And there are good reasons for that. The items viability are (obviously) determined by the champion using it and the team comp they are in. Some items are always viable, but that's not an issue. An item can very well be always viable, such as Dragon's Claw, or just in certain situations, such as Seraph's Embrace.
Here are some quick exemples : Mages, Druids, Rangers, Mystics, Wardens can all benefit from
. Sure, some more than others, but all do.
Blademasters, Lights, Infernos, Clouds can all benefit from
, so on and forth.
However with
, I think that it has potential only in one single comp.
Now I'll show you two different matches where I attempt to reach the max potential of
just for fun. These are the only two comps that I could think of being actually "viable" and suited for the item. Let me know if there other options.
And at the end I'll also rant about why one comp does it better than the other.
Deals an additional 3% of the user's max HP as magic damage to the target and the adjacent enemies behind in a cone.
So my first thought was : let's get berserkers the maximum amount of HP possible. Since the primary parameter for dealing damage is HP.
So i waited until I found a match with the Mountain Map, then immediately hyper rolled for
.
Nasus is the ideal because he can gain 2000 HP from his ability combined with 2 Rabadon's, and that HP counts towards Hydra's damage.
Here are the results :
Here's Titanic Hydra's damage before using his ability and after. https://imgur.com/a/0I6eq8h https://imgur.com/a/F8UV4Sj And here's Nasus HP during overtime. https://imgur.com/a/8EriETg

Despite the massive HP, the maximum bonus damage that Hydra could deal was 120, and Nasus' attack speed was about 0.75. That is very low compared to the 250 magic damage per second dealt all around him by his Ultimate.
Now this other build with
on the other hand works much better :
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UTeL5pn-hNc&feature=youtu.be
Here Olaf deals only 38 bonus magic damage with Titanic Hydra, due to his very low HP. But if you slow down the video you'll notice something incredible. Not only **the whole enemy front line is frozen instantly **at start of the round, but he also procs Titanic Hydra twice! One on the **first **target, and the second on the **second row **behind the first targer. increasing the size of the cone and dealing overall much more damage than Nasus.
Add to that the fact that Guinsoo's Rageblade activates 3 or 4 times per attack enabling him to reach 2.5 AS by the 5th second of the round. That means more freezes, more Hydra damage, more Bloodthirster sustain.
Edit I realized that Titanic Hydra is not an unique item, therefore more than one can be equipped. Making it much more effective to stack multiple Titanic Hydras rather than Trying to stack Max HP.
Here's my take on the matter.
Olaf and Berserkers are broken. But Let's say a couple of things first and understand why it is :
Olaf without Guinsoo's Rageblade and **Bloodthirster **is not borken. But these items are really, really easy to obtain.
Olaf without Glacial / Berserker comp is not broken. But these units are really, really easy to find. You can find all the pieces right before level 6 in fact. And with said items they will crush any other comp. You won't even need to roll for 3Star units either, once you're set, you can push for level.
Glacial without Berserkers are not a broken comp. Try running a glacial comp with just
and
and no Berserkers.
**Berserkers without glacials **are not broken. You want to proc your Titanic Hydra, Guinsoo's Rageblade and Sword Breaker 3+ times per attack? Sure go ahead, no problem. When does it become a problem though? It becomes a problem **when 3 or 4 units can freeze in an AOE **with every single attack, this is because while your champion goes literally berserk with Guinsoo's Rageblade, and all the other on hit items, the opponent is permanently stunned.
Before wrapping this up I will make a couple of suggestions that maybe could fix what i believe is a problem.
Olaf's broken powers come from three factors, glacials, berserkers, on hit effects. This applies to Volibear too by the way. Taking away one of these factors can fix them.
Guinsoo's Rageblade and on-hit effects : These can't be changed, every other champion using on hit effect items (except Sivir maybe) is fine. Berserker : All berserker units should be fine using on hit effects, and Olaf without this class and on hit effects would be garbage. All he can do is hit. Glacial : As said before the interaction between the 100% chance to hit everybody in front of you, and even a microscopic chance of stunning one of those targets, combined with the on hit effects is problematic.
So my solution would be just that, **Berserkers can't apply the Glacial **stun except on the first target.
