Mystery unannounced assassin mechanics?

So I don't have any footage to link for an example but me and a couple friends have noticed that assassins seem to be able to 1shot units but are unsure if this is a bug or if it is an intended capability of the class.

For example, I had a rank 3 garen with warmogs/frozen heart/negatron and a rank 3 rengar hopped over to him and 1 shot him. Beyond not making sense thematically it seems to me that assassins have the ability to 1shot enemies that are a lower level. Meaning that separate from the fact that they both were rank 3, Garen is a lvl 1 character buy and rengar is a blue lvl 3 character.

I guess what i'm asking for is clarification first off because i've seen akali getting these types of one shots the most and it's incredibly frustrating because without being sure it makes it feel like there is nothing you can do v Asses. Now if it is the case that this is how Asses work perhaps it would be more balanced that once an enemy gets a low level character to rank 3 that they can no longer be one shot in this manner. Either that or guardians need to be given the ability to take Ass aggro with a taunt-like ability, good positioning and the ability to resist the 1 shot.

What items did the rengar have? Did the enemy have 3 or more assassins?

These are questions that need to be answered because 3 or more assassins means more crit damage and something like ie will also increase crit damage and items that give ad also increase their damage. I used a rank 3 zed once that had ie and bt and he could crit for a bit over 1800 damage. Assassins hit super hard with crits if there are at least 3. if there are 6, they deal even more. It's actually pretty easy to deal with assassin comps. You need a ranged carry that has items on the corner of the board, protect him with 2 more ranged champs and then have rest of your champs be melee tanks in the front. This way, the assassins can't jump on the stacked ranged carry in the back because there are no free tiles they could move to so they are stuck hitting the tanks while your carry obliterates them all. Even better if the carry is ashe and the tanks also have glacial.

There is no "execute" mechanic. Assassins are working as intended.

3 assassins will do 150% crit damage 6 assassins will do 350% crit damage

Thematically, it does make sense. Assassins are assassins -- they are designed for one-shot kills. It's what assassins do. Knights may be tanks, but that doesn't mean invulnerable. Try building phantom dancer -- it negates all crits. Phantom dancer on garen paired with frozen heart might be worthwhile against assassin team comps. Lucian is also viable with his kite, he's very frustrating to play against as an assassin main. Ranger builds with rageblade and bloodthirster are also extremely frustrating (looking at you vayne).

Keep in mind t3 assassins will usually have double health and damage over t2 assassins. A comp with t3 khazix and t3 zed will hurt.

Try different builds and items. Pure health won't work against crit damage -- you need to work around it.

after running 6 assassin comps, i can assure you that the crits are a little extreme, especially if the assassins have items and full 3 stars. i made graves an assassin once and he killed 3 people in one shot instantly when he landed. it was probably something like that.

additional things to consider: did rengar have items? was there ANY other enemy that could have hit garen at the same time? did the enemy happen to have phantoms too and garen got unlucky?
