Suggestion: Allow players to roll at lower level percentages

I feel TFT should allow players to roll at lower level percentages. A level 3 should be able to choose if their next roll uses level 1, level 2 or level 3 percentages. My motivations for this:

  • Being higher level shouldn't put you at a disadvantage
  • It really sucks late-game to need the last tier1 champion to get 3-star
  • Random games suck when players have little impact on their odds
  • High-rollers should not reduce competitive options of other players

Allowing players to roll at previous level percentages mitigates/resolves all above issues.

First, higher levels can now choose to roll at lower levels meaning there is no disadvantage to being higher level (which makes sense considering it costs resources/time to do so). Second, a player can choose what tier champions to target for rolls. If a player wants tier1 (instead of tier5 potential), why not let the user have an impact on the randomness? Third, this lets the user impact their odds directly; a knob letting them choose which bucket of randomness is ideal for the moment they are in.

Lastly, and most importantly, this option mitigates the impact of high-rollers in early game. In current TFT, if a player gets early roll 3-star tier1 champions, other players must either A. Roll early to get potential 3-star or B. Conserve gold to get interest. Let's say other players choose route A, these players are now at a significant disadvantage because they must sacrifice interest just for the chance of matching the lucky player's power. The lucky player now has equal or better power while also having interest where others have none; the lucky player likely wins. Let's say other players choose route B, their only reliable choice is to get enough 2-star tier3/4/5 champions to overcome the high-roll 3-star(s). This plan certainly has a decent chance of winning but I'm disappointed tier1/tier2 reliant strats become much less reliable simply due to some high-rollers.

My proposal would allow players to follow route B (accumulate interest) but still be open to any comp in the game. Just because a player decides to accumulate interest doesn't mean he can't reliably see tier1/tier2 champions. Put simply, it provides another competitive option that the player can choose to follow.

What do you think?

I like the thought behind the suggestion but that would probably add too many factors to the game in my opinion. I think this is an issue of balance. Personally, I do not see why an Elise should cost more when compared to something like a Nidalee. It doesn't add up to the spirit of League of legends. I think there should be an alternative strategy in place for leveling.

My idea is this. All champions cost 1 gold until you hit tier 2. Then they cost 2 gold each to hit tier 3. With this being said, 5-cost champions should simply be balanced to match the power of any other available champion and have the same strategy applied. I think this could bring less frustrating outcomes, more fun from a larger variety of champions available early (those 5-cost champs), and it would also have a similar performance price to what already exists.

Then, chance to find each champion would be equal at all levels rather than a percentage.

Yes please. It's annoying when you spend a little gold on xp to get to level 5 so you can grab up the Lulus before they're gone and now you can't finish maxing out your frontline tank because they're a 1 cost champion and those start to get rare around level 5... not to mention the fact that the other players have bought up most of the copies already.

Of course, increasing the number of copies of each card in the pool would hit this problem from both ends: You wouldn't have to rush levels so much to get your Lulus/Elises/Shyvanas and there'd still be more Garens/Dariuses/Kassadins to buy by the time you got them.

Eh, this would just make people always prioritize leveling with their excess gold even more. It removes a lot of the advantage people get when they take the risk of rolling early with their gold and have it pay off.

No offense but Riot should put tips that you shouldn't be looking so hard to rank up cost 1 units because they aren't that big of an impact later in the game. With this option is just essentially a noob trap that will prevent you from high rolling the actual good units to fit into your comp.

Don't like it, as many others have stated... seems to over complicate the game.

They are better off focused on a good curve of champions throughout the course of the game then adding something like you suggest.

If you go the economy/interest strategy there's already so little time to reroll and figure out what to do towards the late game, this option would only compound things.
