Clarification on TFT queue DELAYS

Alright, so I've reached my limit with all these threads that are all wrong about what's going on here.

First: The current extended queue timers are a bit of a bug. Riot has rolled out a fix, but that was ~40 minutes ago, and they said it may take a few hours to go fully into effect: Riot SapMagic on Twitter: (1) (2)

Here's an update on long NA queue times:

  • Looks like it's an issue with how our NA servers start games, resulting in lower capacity than we should have
  • Not caused by other regions playing on NA
  • We are testing a possible fix. If it works we will roll it out

Another update:

We believe we found the issue. We are rolling out the fix now, but may take a few hours. Queue times may get a bit worse until then. We don't expect this to be an issue for EU, which we are going to turn on very soon.

Thanks for your patience!

Second: The timers put in place have been done for the precise reason to prevent what happened with Clash. There are simply too many game all trying to start at once, that without a delay, the backend systems will just self destruct, and then no one gets to play.

As for people saying "why didn't they anticipate this yadayadayada": a) TFT has been known to the public for all of about 2 weeks, if that. There is simply no possible way that Riot could have prepped for this kind of situation in that amount of time b) If Riot hasn't been able to fix this issue with Clash yet (which requires a complete rewrite and reconstruction of the game's underlying meta-systems, all while making sure nothing ELSE breaks), and have instead opted into a work-around where Clash game times will just be delayed, what makes you think that they would have been able to fix it yet for an experimental game mode (of which the hype will inevitably die down)?

And no, they can't just "increase queue capacity" or any of that nonsense, because that's not how things work.

Is it really conceivable that they would be hamstringing themselves for no reason? They already have disabled practice mode and limited custom games to 10 players. There's nothing more they can do.

Third: I've seen several people now that have made some kind of connection that Riot has been doing this on purpose for...some reason (matter of fact the only one I saw that actually gave a justification was that Riot wants players to spend more on Little Legend eggs) How? Seriously, how does that make any sense? Why would Riot, without rightful justification, on the release day of one of the most hyped things they have ever made, purposefully add an hour delay to all TFT games?

If you haven't been able to play TFT yet, is that going to make you want to spend money on eggs?

This may be true, but that is the purpose of having a PBE client, to make sure that there are not/won't be any issues when the game hits the live servers. This was an issue on PBE, and they still rolled it out on live servers regardless. Can correct me if I'm wrong here? I'm less upset at the devs, just a little disappointed in riot. It's a super fun game, and I was extremely excited for it. I just don't understand why they rolled it out on the live servers if the PBE client needed a delay as well. Idk, I'm just venting. 1 1/2 hours into queue :/

The real problem is them just letting people create accounts from EU when they could add level restriction or ping restriction for the time being since they didn't release it in EU yet, for some odd reason.

i like how they say it isnt cuz there are people from other regions playing on NA, but the truth is that we likely wouldnt have had issues if people from other regions couldnt do tft on the NA server. it is potentially true that there is a problem with the NA server as they have described, and that once they fix it the server will be able to handle the load from legit EVERY REGIONS PLAYERS USING IT FOR TFT AT ONCE; but that doesnt mean that if those players WERENT here we would still be having queue issues.

i suspect that if only players native to the NA server before patch release were able to access TFT that the queues would be very manageable. doesnt mean there isnt an underlying issue with the servers, but it DOES mean that this problem is likely being caused by multiple things, not just a simple server issue they found.

"Looks like it's an issue with how our NA servers start games, resulting in lower capacity than we should have"

quote from riot that OP had. lower capacity doesnt mean that it was too low to handle NA players, just means it was too low to handle ALL THE PLAYERS ON IT CURRENTLY. no evidence that this issue would have impacted us nearly as severely if other regions had the lvl 10 restriction that oce and jpn did.

URF is the most hype thing when have it running, no issues with AR urf popping up at random, I myself believe its a promo to build for this new gamemode since the last what 3-4 game mode went the way of trash? To be honest I enjoy the last gamemode, wanted it again, also like one for all.. its like those game modes were deleted. I didn't enjoy this super DBZ over 9000 Q issue, doesn't make sense. But hey, I don't work for the company, so nothing I say really matters, I just miss one for all and arurf

Thank you for that clarification. Is there any way you guys can pin this up somewhere, this way more people will see it?
