Question: If it's an ARAM tournament, why is Rank required? I know quite a few people that literally only play ARAM, so would be much more skilled there than their Rank might suggest.

I'd assume it's because they want to make the games fair. While ARAM-only players may actually be better at ARAM than ranked players (to a certain extent, and largely because of the OP champion options), you're going to have lopsided matches if you don't know their ranks.

If you have an ARAM match with 10 players ranked gold 1 - plat 5 in ranked, it may still well be lopsided sometimes (it is ARAM after all), but more games will probably be a bit closer.
