What is Learning Fives?
Five players and one coach join together for five weeks of team based learning and practice.
During those five weeks, teams meet together twice a week for 2-3 hours and their coaches will spectate the games. One time per week, two teams from two different regions are selected to appear on the Twitch stream and play against one another. Their play will allow them to assess their progress, and allow coaches to discuss with casters and the audience their techniques and philosophy.
At the end of the time period, teams play a streamed tournament to celebrate their hard work. Individuals will also be publicly highlighted for various feats, such as showcasing individual growth or climbing the ladder. After the just-for-fun tournament the whole process is ready to go again!

How do I get selected?
After you complete on application, coaches and staff will begin forming teams. This process occurs rapidly from September 21st - September 25th. If selected, an invitation to join the Learning Fives Slack will be sent to the email you provided during registration.
Once you join Slack, you will need to access the channel #team-selection where a Coordinator will give you the Coach’s information and practice times.
If you’re unsure of your status, and think the invitation email isn’t coming through, you can also check learningfives.com/teams for more information, read bios from all the coaches, and see if you are pending on any team rosters.

FAQ
Will everyone who signs up be on a team?
- No. We would love for everyone to be able to participate, but due to scheduling conflicts and a lack of coaches, only 30 - 40% of signups can be selected to play on a team.
How will I be notified that I’ve been selected to a team?
- You will be sent an email to join the Learning Fives Slack channel between September 21 - 25. If you are not selected, you will receive an email on the 26th.
I’m interested in coaching, can I get more information?
- Absolutely! We have a Coach’s Information meeting on the Summoner School TeamSpeak (Look for the information on the subreddit’s sidebar) on September 21st at 5:00 PM CDT that you may attend. Our coaches will have access to basic lesson plans that they can choose to follow. Even if you have no coaching experience our team can help you succeed.
Has anything changed from last session?
- A few things. This session students are able to indicate how serious they are outside of the regular scheduled practice times. We’re hoping to form teams where everyone’s expectations are in line. We now have a website as a centralized source of information. We are also now taking and documenting attendance.
I can’t attend this session, when are you doing this again?
- The next session will be just after the start of the new year. If you’d like to receive a notification, click here to sign up for an email alert the next time signups go live
EDIT: Can I sign up with a premade 5s team and just get assigned a coach? What about duo partners who want to sign up together?
- Yes you can! In fact, some coaches prefer to deal with students who know eachother before the program starts. Just make sure that EACH member of the group signs up on their own, but puts down the other team-mates as their preferred pairings.
As always, we want to hear your feedback. If you have any comments, questions, or suggestions feel free to leave a comment.
