whats your role what is your goal and have you entered tournaments
The #1 trick is to focus on your own game and not your team mates and realize that if you aren't climbing it is because you are at your skill level.
Second trick is to learn what GPM and EPM are and work on making yourself as efficient as possible with both.
Third trick is to learn all the items and realize that certain items are required to counter certain champions or other items. I can't tell you how many times I see people bitching about Voli/Aatrox passive winning duels but then they never spend the 800 gold to counter their kits with an executioner's calling.

I am in the same boat as @Runyoucleverboy, but my case is Silver II and struggling to climb. Currently mid main and can go on 10 win streaks easily or 10 loss streaks, and when I lose it usually isn't me losing lane, but me not being able to carry hard enough or applying pressure in the right places when I have the lead...
