IGN: Frozetic Age: 18 Role: Top Best 3: Malphite, irelia, brand (yes top) I'm learning more aggressive tops tho (Zed, Rengar, Garen, Kha) just to name a few Timezone: UTC 5s Exp: I used to play a lot with my friends, tournaments and such included, but they stopped inviting me, because they switched to focus more on solo-q more Willing to take direction?: Yeah, I know a team only works if we're all on the same page, and having everyone listen to 1 or 2 people is really beneficial.

I have nothing to do with this team but I'll give you some free advice as someone who's played ranked teams (both 3s and 5s): champion pool is extremely important. It isn't like solo queue where being familiar with a champion and relying on skill to overcome a matchup works. You're no longer dealing with a group of individuals but a team using voice communication and "maining" a role.

That means oddball picks and strats don't work and you'll be putting yourself at a severe disadvantage by playing pretty much any of your champions. Irelia is the only one you mention that's I'd say is ok in the current meta.

Right now: Jax, Renekton, Shyvana for traditional tops, Lulu, Lissandra, Ryze for AP support/carry, Gragas, Maokai for AP tank. Other champs can be played but those will be most effective in a TEAM setting.

I am trying to learn shyv, but i guess you're right. I haven't been paying much attention to the current high-pick high-power meta and i guess i should be. thanks friend.

No worries, not trying to be mean or anything. Ranked teams is just a lot less forgiving when it comes to champion selection because pick/ban is a lot more important. It will save you a lot of frustration in finding teams if you stay current on the meta because most decent players will only play with you if you play meta picks.

That doesn't mean you have to quit playing your favorite champs or you can't have a pocket oddball pick for a specific matchup, it just means you should be competent on the meta picks. I generally watch OGN and see who the Koreans are playing because generally those picks end up in NA eventually.

I can't tell you how many times I've had people ask me "how can I get to gold in 3s, what am I doing wrong" and I look and they are playing tier 3 (trash tier) champs instead of God tier. To make it worse when I spectate them they are normally passive in lane and trying to last hit while their enemy is pushing for level 2 to all in (huge mistake in 3s to last hit, always push). Point being, ranked teams isn't solo queue so don't play it like solo queue.

I'm a good solo queue player (even though I hate and rarely play it) but I'm MUCH better at teams. If people didn't get so caught up in solo queue rank as a requirement for team 5s they would realize a lot of us 3s players are much better than a solo queue rank equivalent. That isn't to say solo queue rank doesn't mean anything, just that ranked 3s transitions better to team 5s from a mentality and coordination standpoint than solo queue skill.

I can lane against diamond players in team matches, I'm not a diamond solo queue player by any stretch of the imagination...

I totally understand, I know team play is 1000x more important in ranked teams, and I know meta champs are the way to go. I completely understand what you're saying and thanks for the advice :)

I had a much longer response written, but it isn't worth more discussion so here's my last post and you can take it or leave it: you're a silver 5s players, most likely basing your opinion on competitive play and solo queue, neither of which have really anything to do with ranked team 5s unless you're diamond I+.

The intent of my post wasn't to create an exhaustive list of "meta" champions, it was to give the guy playing Brand, Zed and Garen top lane a very basic description of the types of champions you'll find in team 5s and a couple examples of each. That's it. If you think Jax, Renekton, Shyvana and Gragas are no longer viable "meta" picks just because they aren't being played every game on streams or in solo queue then you're an idiot.

Also, you forgot Lulu.

IGN: RIsurin Age: 24 Role: ADC Best 3: Lucian, Jinx, Tristana Timezone: UTC -5, Eastern Time 5s Exp: most of my ranked game this season was as ADC in ranked 5. we place in S5 skiped to to S3 and still have good mmr, just some member have some complication, that made them unable to play with the schedule we agreed on. if it mean anything, i'm 6 point short for the last ward reward. Willing to take direction?: Absolutly, i think adc in 5s ranked is probably one fo the role that should follow direction the most.
