Hardstuck Silver II Mid main going to Gold! Would like to ask the community some advice to improve.

Royal Princess··1 votes·1,123 views

Hey everyone!

I'm a mid main seeking to reach Gold this season. I also can play ADC pretty decently. I'm trying to improve my plays and feel a bit hardstuck at silver II. I managed to grind from bronze 3 to silver 2... but now feel maybe I should seek to improve my gameplay somehow.. just don't know how. Anyways would love to hear some feedback from you guys! Thanks and much appreciated.

Once you get to silver 2 it is all about improving your map awareness. This alone will take you to diamond 3 +. After diamond 3 focus on wave management. When you get to diamond 2 learn about proper warding. When you get to diamond 1 focus on your position in teamfights. In master tier focus on last hitting. In challenger focus on outplaying your opponent. Thanks for taking my advice ^.^

i think the best way to improve map awareness is to look at your map as often as possible! Doing this will result in diamond 3-4.

That's not true at all. You're not going to get through Gold/Plat by just looking at the map. If it was that easy, there'd be more diamond players. Only like 2% of players are DIamond 3 or higher. Map awareness is an essential part of league of legends, but it's not going to make up for lackluster mechanics, farming ability, macro decisions etc.

You are Gold with over 1200 ranked games. OP, beware of listening to this person, they clearly don't know how to climb

A good understanding of macro play gets you to S2-Gold..... Micro play is where things get more interesting. SpiritOfFizz said most of the main ones there, but also roaming and learning at least what all the champions do and how they feel might help you a lot!

If you can, try playing every champion a few times to see how people build/play against the various champs. You may even get shown some stuff you have not really thought of.

ok I'll try looking at learning the other champs so I know what to avoid. Thanks

plat 3 mid main here (maybe you can tell by my name), been plat for a couple years now maining mid with a variety of champions played

To me being successful as a mid laner in SoloQ is much like the real estate mantra that everyone uses "Location, Location, Location"

Being smart with knowing when to roam, when to stay in lane, when to recall, when to follow your lane opponent on a roam or stay and push their tower, you are the center of attention and everything around the map revolves around you. For instance if you roam bottom and force a bad play and die to an enemy adc, you've just put yourself AND your bot lane behind with a bad play. Your lane opponent gets free cs and mid control which leads to vision control, maybe they get a tower, etc etc.

The great thing about maining mid, and this is why I have mained mid lane as long as I can remember, you have so much variety when it comes to champions, whereas ADCs are usually stuck with only like 2-3 choices that are meta, the mid lane usually has a wider selection of strong champions.

Edit: A comment to an earlier post about awareness, I strongly disagree that "map awareness" is the difference between silver and diamond, that's simply not true. That's bad advice to give as it encourages you to not focus on mechanics or other very important skills as much as you should.

What do you think is a good way for me to focus on mechanics as a mid laner?

Depends what you mean when you say mechanics. It's a vague term. Mechanics are very hard to teach though, it basically comes down to do you have it or not. Getting better at CSing, hitting skill-shots (basically every good mid lane champion depends on a skill-shot to do well) Ahri with her charm, LeBlanc with her chain, Viktor death ray, etc. Those types of things anyone can improve on, but things like reaction speed can be hard to train, some people either have it or they don't.

It's so cliche but I really do think a lot of players who are in Bronze or Silver can all get to Gold if they just get better at lane phase. I see way too many people at Bronze/Silver missing easy CS, recalling at bad times which loses CS, or forcing too many fights in lane. I forget the actual math, but generally 1 kill is worth roughly 12-15 cs, and it's a lot easier to get 12-15 cs than a kill.

Mechanics always look better when you have the gold to back it up. You can hit your skill-shots, outplay someone but if they have better items than you do, it probably won't matter. In a nutshell I'd say just get better at the early game, like I said earlier it sounds so cliche and so simple, but I truly think that so many people just don't play the early game well enough, and it puts them behind for the rest of the game.

Hey Royal Princess,

The Team Recruitment board is the place where players come to look for others to get together with so they can queue up and play the game together with. For tips, advice, strategies, and generally discussing how the game is played we have the Gameplay board. Don't worry, you're not in trouble! I'm just here to let you know so that in the future your discussions can go in the appropriate venues and get the correct visibility.

I started bronze 4 last season and finished plat 3. You can do it! While most commenters here have covered the basics, there is one thing crucial thing that no one has mentioned: attitude. Attitude alone can help you climb several leagues. You could have the best mechanics in bronze, but a bad attitude will hold you back. I'm talking like things, such as, blaming your team mates for every mistake. Attitude is a huge thing to help you, as having the correct mentality alone can help you climb. Good luck!
