TMG is looking for Silver-Platinum teams for our Academy Series!
The TMG Champions Series is a league where 16 teams compete, and one emerges victorious. This league is an extremely competitive environment, with teams that are looking to prove their dominance, and compete for small prizing. To add to this competitive environment, the teams that are not able to compete at a level that is satisfactory to other teams should be eliminated. We are not keen on the idea of kicking teams out completely, so we are creating an amateur series for teams that want to qualify for the TMG Champions Series. This adds to the competitive environment of the tournament, and it lets lesser-ranked teams play in a tournament with teams equal to their skill. The Academy Series will not give an extreme level of stability to teams, as the goal is to qualify for the Champions Series. The Academy Series will work as follows: There will be 8 teams that qualify. Teams can be from Bronze 5 - Platinum 5 average rank, with no previously or current Diamond + teams. Each team will play a best of 3 series each weekend. Most games will not be streamed, but all will be recorded and put on our youtube channel. One series each weekend will be played before the Champions Series and streamed on our twitch channel. After the regular season, the top 6/8 teams will make playoffs. The top 2 teams will get a bye, and the 3 seeded team will play the 6 seeded team, and the 4 seeded team will play the 5 seeded team in bo5's. The winner of the 3v6 will play the 2 seed that got a bye in a bo5, and the winner of the 4v5 will play the 1 seed that got the bye in a bo5. The winners of this match will play in a finals, and the champion will automatically qualify for the champions series, replacing the 16th team.
The 7th and 8th seeded team will not play in playoffs, they will have to re-qualify in the qualification tournament for the academy series. The two teams that lost first in the 3v6 and 4v5 game will play versus each other, and the loser will join the 7th and 8th seed in the re-qualification tournament. The winner of that game will join the other 3 teams and they will be randomly re-seeded, and there will be 2 bo3 series'. The winners of this will join the promotion tournament, and the losers will play each other, the winner of that game playing in the promotion tournament. This sounds very complicated, so I will give a quick rundown: Top 6/8 play in Academy series playoffs, with 1 and 2 seed getting bye. Winner of this will automatically qualify for the champions series. 7th and 8th have to play in re-qualification tournament. The losers of the first round of playoffs will play again in a bo5, and the loser will join 7th and 8th in the re-qualification tournament, while the winner joins the 3 remining teams. The remaining 4 teams will be randomly re-seeded and there will be 2 bo3 series, the winners joining the promotion tournament. The losers of the 2 series' will play, the loser automatically qualifying for the academy series and the winner joining the promotion series.
TLDR: At the end of this entire playoff run: 1 team automatically qualifies 3 teams play in promotion tournament 1 team automatically re-qualifies for academy series 3 teams play in the re-qualification tournament.
