1.) Be prepared to be paired with idiot lane partner (this advice goes with ADC's as well, though). There's always going to be that one person that you pop all of your abilities to get them out safely only for them to jump right back in and die.

2.) ALWAYS attempt communication with the ADC along with the rest of the team during champ select (as well as the rest of the game, ofc). This is especially important with the ADC because you will be spending the first 10-20 minutes of the game in lane with them. Especially communicate your planned play-style.

3.) Have a wide range of champions you play, but have at least 1 tank, 1 utility, and 1 mage support champion that you are good at. Especially in low elo, the support is -- annoyingly enough -- usually the one that's left to fill the gaps of a team comp (even if they are the first pick in draft). For instance, if your jungler goes with somebody that's squishy like Shaco or Evelynn, you should be willing to pick a tank like Leona or Tahm Kench instead of somebody like Janna or Sona.

4.) 2 & 3 kind of blend together for this one. The ADC and Support should pick champs that synergize well together. For instance, Draven and Sona synergize very well together because they have strong sustain and heavy poke damage. They aren't "godlike" or anything because it is pretty easily to counter, but you get my point.

5.) Expect none of the kills and all of the assists. Unless you're Sona, in which case your Q can snipe a kill if you're ahead even if you try not to. Seriously, an auto-Q-auto charged passive lich bane proc combo can do some serious damage to the enemy squishy. Anyways, back on topic.

6.) Despite what ADC mains want, you should roam. Of course, you should only do this if it is safe for the ADC to do so, though. For instance, a good time to roam would be right after the enemy team backs if you're still near full health. It's also a good time to roam when your ADC is pretty far ahead.

7.) Keep your eyes on your minimap more than the main screen when there is nothing going on in bot lane. Just like number 3, this is especially true in low elo. The ADC, mid laner, and top laner will most likely be focusing on CS'ing and trading and might neglect at times to watch the minimap for an enemy gank. You, on the other hand, will basically be sitting there doing nothing besides the occasional poke to the enemy ADC (if you're a poke support like Lulu or Sona) most of the time. Watch, and ping, for anything that would be important (enemy laner roaming, enemy jungler ganking, etc.). You pinging an enemy gank may very well save your teammate's life. Just, don't let this effect your focus on what's going on in your own lane.

Try to keep an eye on what your ADC is doing. For the best laning experience you have to be versitile...... If they are an aggressive ADC you have to choose what would be better..... Saving your CC and damage for if the eneny engages? Or go for a hard aggressive poke to try and force the enemy out of lane?

Any way you look iat it, your ADC and you GENERALLY bound.... Where one goes the other goes. Support can roam (if you trust your adc not to be silly enough to go half way into lane without you) and help catch mid with your jungler.

Reasons you should leave your ADC.....

  1. If enemy bot lane is in another lane, go to that lane and let your adc farm bott if they are smart enough to know when the enemy jungler is coming. This is unless your other laner can wave clear well and safely (example, anivia). Then you try to rush their turret while they are wasting their time in another lane.
  2. If the ADC is too silly to deal with. If they are going to CONSTANTLY get hooked by Blitzcrank or Thresh even when they are in wards etc... Even if you take a few of those hooks and save them..... It is best to just leave the ADC and just support another lane.
  3. If you are Bard and are out of mana, leave to get a few chimes and come back. Be sure to choose appropriate times and dont stray far. Best to collect when..... Adc backs, enemy backs, enemy dies, if ally adc is under turret and the enemy team does not have a hard tanky engage support..... And adc has reasonably high health %.
  4. If enemy laners die, and enemy jungler was recently seen top or dead.... Feel free to roam mid to try and kill enemy mid laner while your ADC farms and gets more exp.

Be sure to play champions that Synergize well with eachother. Braum and Jhin are not the greatest synergy due to Jhin's only 4 shots, same with Nami and Jhin......... However both of those supports would do well with Lucian or Ezreal or Miss Fortune. Jhin would do better with Leona, or Zilean. (just examples of synergy, there are plenty more)

Find an ADC that is willing to learn with you and that you synergize well with as players. Playstyles vary based on champion and players, since ADC and Support rely on eachother more than the other lanes...... It requires more understanding of eachother's roles and champions.

Dont be afraid of trying new things. Such as Tahm Kench and Zilean bott lane..... Sion and Zilean bott lane.... Syndra and Zilean bott lane.... Rumble and Tahm Kench Bott Lane..... Etc. Who knows? You might even start up something bott lane like the Miss Fortune support in LCS did.

A huge mistake I see a lot of inexperienced supports do is basically AFK when the enemy is low attempting to give their ADC the kill. NEVER DO THIS. Just do your normal attack rotations and never stop auto attacking. If you get the kill just ignore any flame you may take. It would surprise you how little people actually get upset about a "KS." I have seen it too many times where a support either lets the enemy get away or gets their ADC killed by basically going AFK mid fight.

best advice is " don't play support." :D
