I'd suggest playing adc a lot. "But wait, random person on the internet, I wanted to get good at supoort, not adc!" Well, you can't really know how to play support well without knowing what you're supporting. Play adc often, and you'll learn a lot about when good times to engage are and why adcs play the way they do at times.
