Need help learning to play

Looking for people to help teach me, can skype, teamspeak, almost anything to communicate. Just started, think I'm ok, want to get better

No problem at all. You have to start somewhere.

Farming is basically collecting gold. You will passively gain gold over time, but it is far more efficient to collect gold by getting the last hit on a minion, monsters, and helping to take objectives such as towers and killing enemy champions.

When I say farming, I am more specifically referring to collecting gold by last hitting minions, which is also often referred to as 'cs-ing'. The C in cs-ing stands for 'creeps'. So your CS is your creep score, or the number of creeps (minions and neutral monsters) you have slain since the start of the game. You can see your score, in your HUD, and the cs-score of other players by holding TAB. The larger the number the better, and you want to try and have more then your lane opponent because that generally means that you have accumulated more gold than them. More gold, means more items. Items give you stats. Stats make you more effective. Pretty simple, right?

I would recommend practicing this in Coop vs A.I. matches until you get the hang of it, then move to PvP.

The thing that is often most difficult is getting the last hit on a minion before your allied minions. Knowing the amount of damage you deal with each auto attack (your total AD), your attack speed, your critical strike chance, and knowing how all of that works together. I understand that knowing all of this is difficult, League of Legends has a very steep learning curve, and it took me a long time. You also need to know things like, which of your abilities can be used to effectively kill minions without putting yourself in danger, and again how much damage they do.

Okay, so now you know what you can use to deal damage and how much damage they do. How do you know when to use them? If have targeted a minion, or any targetable unit, you will see the stats, including remaining health of that unit in the upper left corner of your HUD by default. After practice, you won't need to continuously monitor this, and you will have a better idea of how low the visual health bar above a unit's head needs to be in order for you to kill that unit and collect the reward.

I think the problem that most new players have is that they are often too quick to go aggressive on the enemy player and end up falling behind when they do not have the stats needed to actually kill that enemy.

I know it sounds boring, but I can't stress enough how important that it is that you practice farming efficiently.

killing the minions is called csing or farming. getting the killing last hit on them gives you gold. you get experience just for being close to them when they die though.

a good goal to get for csing if you are alone or the only one csing in a lane would be 80 cs by 10 minutes. 60 is also fine if you can manage that, though the amount you get can depend on the situation.
