Game Mode Suggestion: Arena

I was thinking on a map similar to Dominion, why not have a Free-For-All Arena styled game mode?

Maybe allow everything from abilities to stats be purchased at item shops.

I am not fond of the free-for all idea. Everyone would just be waiting in bushes to kill steal. Champions with stealth would be OP KSers.

When I first read Arena I was thinking like a deathmatch map. No minions, towers, or brush - just death. I hate the snowball mentality so I'd want everyone to start lv 18 with like 5k gold or something.

The biggest problem with this is balance, or at least using the current balance of Rift in any meaningful capacity.

Summoner's Rift is a 5v5 game that almost always encourages teamwork over lone wolf kind of deals. There are places where 1v1 power comes into play, but at the end of the day some champions are just way better at team-fighting than they are in 1v1 situations, and some champions are considerably better in duels and skirmishes than they are team fights. Anyways - champions aren't evenly balanced around 1v1 potential.

Also - Rift is balanced around the idea games take 30~45 minutes. That's why amazing early game, mid game, and late game champions exist. The game goes through different phases to favor different power spikes.

Anyways - FFA completely screws over champions reliant on a mid/late game and team-fight potential, while it heavily favors 1v1 duelists with a solid early game. Champions like Lee Sin will be 100% pick, and champions like Ashe will be almost completely unplayable. You can look at the win rates of Dominion and Treelines to see what I mean - the worst 15 win rates include no less than 9 marksman in Crystal Scar, and only 3 of the best win rates include ranged champions there. And that map actually has towers and minions to help allow range to matter, along with most of the lanes being fairly devoid of brush melee champs can exploit, and generally ~3 champions get to do team-work things throughout most of that map. It's tilt towards dueling being more important and team-fights being less important than Rift already throws the balance considerably out of balance.

If LoL was balanced fighting-game style around 1v1 fights being more important than team fight potential, sure - this could have potential. But LoL isn't balanced that way, so a big part of winning and loosing would legitimately be decided in champion select. Some champions are just considerably better for PvE than others. How many times have you seen a ranged champion jungle?

This is kind of dorky to say but ive always wanted like a free for all/ survival mode. Kind of like the hunger games like having any man for himself would be cool.
