Afraid to play normals for fear of being banned

Ok so, I am still a pretty new player. I have played mostly AI games because I don't want anyone to get mad at me for basically being new lol. The AI mode is no longer challenging, and I have grasped the basic concept of the game. I would like to start playing against other human beings in the normals blind pick ,BUT, people are still really rude there. I don't have a problem ignoring them. If they are frustrated with me, I apologize and ask what they would like me to do instead. I am open for constructive criticism. But I don't understand why they would report me. Is it because I am an unskilled player? i figured that in order to be skilled , you have to be unskilled first lol, I dunno I could be wrong XD. The last game I played, a teammate told me to quit feeding. I said " Sorry, I am not trying to feed, is there something else you want me doing instead?" he replied "just stop feeding". OK so now I am only keeping minion waves down, because I am just not doing well in this game, the meta was a bad build, but I am still gonna do the best I can, learn from this, and get better. But the guy wanted to report me for intent feeding. Because of this, I am afraid to play any game other than bots and its gotten so boring lol. I don't wanna be banned for not being good, but I'm not gonna get any better if I don't play. Is normals NOT where you gain experience playing with other actual people? I just don't understand. Can someone explain this to me please?

Wow, thanks for all your answers guys, I will definitely use your suggestions. ps. I do have real life friends lol, they just don't play XD

Welcome to the toxic world of League of Legends!

But in all seriousness you're not going to get banned for being new to the game. Pretty sure the "unskilled player" ticket is for matchmaking purposes only.

Not everyone is toxic though, you just need to talk to people. Most people will try to help if you explain your situation. But at the same time some players are so cancerous you might as well just mute them, they're not doing you or anyone else any favours.

If you want to practice, ARAMs are great ways to simulate teamfighting, sieging, working on skillshots, and general mastery of a champion's kit. People are much less serious there than SR, so it's less toxic.

Sure you can't practice all the game's mechanics there, but it should get you along until you find a champion or two you really like and help you develop some skills.

You can't be banned for being bad at the game, so don't be afraid to be bad. Ignore the people like your teammate whose only advice was "just stop feeding". Odds are they're not real great at the game. If you want to get better you have to play with actual people because bots really don't teach you anything. If you are really struggling watch someone on youtube play a champion that interests you and try to play how they play (keep in mind you do not have as much experience, runes, and masteries as them so don't get frustrated if you can't do exactly what they can).

I wouldn't fret too much over people yelling at you for feeding. Many other players like yourself don't quite understand the difference between being new and actually feeding. For the most part, I would actually recommend continuing to play normals. Something called match making rating (MMR for short) will start to balance out the more you play. MMR is the thing that determines who you play against based on win rate, skill level, and player level/experience (someone correct me if I'm wrong). Right now, it may actually just be set slightly high (it can be for many people, myself included sometimes). Just give it some time and soon you will be able to learn the game without too much fear of people reporting you for no real reason. I hope this helps ^^

I share your pain.

I'm re-learning the game myself after having returned to it recently and I'm struggling to do so. Feel free to add me in-game if you feel like playing with somebody who'll do his best not to rage and the like as long as you're willing to give that same consideration. There are times I'm afraid I'll get banned for feeding because I do so horrid and Lyte's new automated feed-detection system thing is going to be in full swing soon which only adds to my fear. At times like that just take a step back and remember that the only way you'd be banned for doing badly is if you did badly on purpose.

As it was explained to me when I first began playing LoL way way back, ( and I'm going to assume it still holds true that ) playing bots gets one into bad habits because bots do not behave like an actual player. You and I could play bots and begin scoring pentakills but that practice wouldn't translate to playing others. It makes the bot mode useful only for playing champions you've never played before in order to learn their kits.

As far as dealing with abusive and/or frustrating players ( both on and opposing your team ) are concerned I think Huzzy ( click here for his YT Channel ) has the right idea and I recommend watching some of his videos. I've seen him in several games with what I'd consider to be Toxic players and he often talks about how he's managed to cope with them and I have to say while not all of his techniques worked for me some of them do.

I hope to see you on the Rift, Megarra.

Unskilled is not a bannable offense. It's only there to report so players can vent frustration.

Just focus on not making mistakes though. The most common mistake with new players is going too hard in lane (trying too hard for a kill you don't have) and dying as a result. Play more passively early. Otherwise, don't worry, just try it. You'll move to players at your skill level quickly enough! :)

Riot is implementing it's own AI now to restrict your account if your K/D/A is super bad aka "feeding".

A simple rule of thumb for the friendless summoner (presuming based on this post you have no friends) :

If you solo que, and then you die 3 or more times without a single kill. Basically, if you go 0/5 in the first ten mins you are doing something wrong.

Feeding is when you keep dying w/o improvement.

Did you charge their tower? Don't do that. Did you get ganked when you over extended your lane? Ward. Hell, Riot implemented a free trinket for this reason.

etc etc etc

If people threaten to report you, that in itself is actually a report offense.

Don't ever ask for help in game. If anything ask in the post-game lobby after the game is over.

The best advice I can give you as a noob is to learn to farm, and to not die (part of not dying in lane is judicial use of wards, and paying attention to the minimap as often as you can). Those two things will rocket your win rate up more than anything else.

Unskilled reports don't do anything. People might rightfully call you "bad" if you play terribly, but you can get them banned for two weeks for saying that.

You won't be punished by Riot for sucking, you only get punished for toxicity and AFKing usually. You can mute people who flame you for sucking or just ignore them. Also, they usually only flame you because they are looking for someone to blame for them doing bad themselves, usually.

If you're afraid of toxic players, you can play with your friends also, for extra support or a 5 man if you have enough players

Like the others said, Unskilled does nothing to push you towards a ban. All it does is add an extra data point to help tweak the matchmaking system

If someone does harass you for low skill, ignore them. Easiest way to do that is to mute them. You can either type /mute playername into the chat box, or you can hit tab and click on the chat bubble by their name. Then, after the game, report them by clicking on the red exclamation mark.

Then wait a few minutes before starting your next game. Riot does not utilize a blacklist system, so if you finish a game and immediately start a new one, there's a chance you'll see the player in your next game.
