[Game mode concept] Labyrinth
So, I had this idea earlier, that it would be interesting to see a map that had an actively changing environment. Seeing as how League very much revolves around using your surroundings to your advantage, and around each player's level of map awareness, it would be cool to have a game mode that really focused in on those aspects.
So, imagine a map that is a maze. However, it isn't a static maze. The layout changes. It could be done in a few ways, which I'll discuss here.
The first idea being that there could be a number of predetermined maze layouts, but they would change in a random order. They would be on a timer of course, so players aren't caught completely off-guard, but they still wouldn't know what layout they are going to end up with. This forces players to make quick decisions as they adapt to the changing environment.
The second idea is that there would be switches placed across the map (Similar to altars in twisted treeline), which, when activated, would change the maze to a specific layout. These would only be able to be activated every so often to avoid abuse, and would take some time to activate. This way, Both teams are kept on their toes by each other.
Now of course, there are other issues to address.
For example: How would the winners be determined?
The way I see it, it would best be done similar to ascension or dominion, where teams gain points for kills or for controlling zones. There could possibly be relics which grant points upon capture, also similar to ascension. This would be complemented by the maze mechanic, as it could be used to gain easier access to relics (The layout you choose may give you a quicker path to a certain relic, or deny the enemy a safe access route to it).
This would also encourage players to learn how to ward, which is something that many people seem to lack. With a constantly changing environment, a well-placed ward could mean the difference between life and death, or the difference between getting a kill and letting the enemy escape.
I'm sure there are probably things I've missed, but as an overall idea, I think it would be pretty good. I'm open to suggestions as to how it could be more balanced or improved.
