PVP...Harder than it sounds?

I am a level 13 summoner and I've always wanted to play a PVP game but the problem is: I'm worried about being put into a game against level 19-30 or something super insane like that. Do PVP games place you in a team with roughly the same rank and you can play against opponents close to the same rank?

The level system is borderline pointless, I think it is mostly there to keep brand new players from joining Ranked play with no experience whatsoever. There is an MMR (Match-making rating) you are issued, which rises and falls depending on who you win and lose against.

That aside, join PvP when you feel comfortable with a couple champions, and expect like 95% of your teammates to be jackasses. You may want to consider skimming across a couple champion guides on lolking (or some other LoL site) to get an idea of how to build items on specific champions. Also watching a livestream on twitch.tv or using the "Featured Game" spectator mode could help you get a grasp on how a typical PvP game will play out.

Welcome to LoL! Don't forget to ward and watch that minimap! :D

Edit: I believe the "Featured Game" mode is temporarily removed from the main screen, it will return eventually.

When you do start to play PvP, don't get discouraged if you do bad. There are a lot of smurfs (people who are playing on a low level alternate account, usually to play against worse players and stomp them) that will be merciless and mean. Just keep playing, and eventually matchmaking will adjust and you will be able to practice against players that are similar to you skill wise.

Yeah PVP all the way. You might get put up against some smurfs (Level 30s playing on alternate accounts) that'll beat the stuffing out of you, but it's really the best way to improve and have fun.

1 year and a couple months ago I just started playing League. I just started playing PvP ASAP. You should start playing PvP matches, as it is the only way to improve yourself. Its alright if you start feeding. Its alright if you don't do well. They are just mistakes, so try and learn from them. If you are scared try watching a twitch.tv stream or some YouTube videos, so that you kind of know what to do versus humans.

This is a PvP game bro. But it's a lot different than MMORPG PvP. There's no "griefing" to speak of. Even if you do get pitted against better opponents it helps you learn to become better. Eventually when you get to higher levels you'll find a spot where most people you play are around your level.

Except in ranked, that shit is totally random idc wtf people say.

When people under level 30 play normal mode (PvP), the system preferentially places them against teams with some or all players below level 30. Once you're above level 30 you'll never see people below 30 unless you are queued with a friend who is below 30.

Getting to 30 is like doing your minimum homework before you can really start playing the game. Lots of people get to 30 and still are not good...but that's what bronze league is for in ranked. No shame in going there, it's where I started.

What this means is that there are many skill levels and the system will place you in the right spot for you in normals or ranked.

Come play with me!

Oh and fk bots they lose all interest VERY early. Well unless they are doombots. But even they have limited playability

And yes, you will be matched according to your matchmaking ratin, which should be around your skill/level. (And according to player availability of course). Unless you are in a group, then the average mmr of the group will be considered.
