Any Interest in a League Rotisserie Draft?
Hello, I don't use the boards incredibly frequently, and posts from me are nearly non-existent, so I apologize if this is already a thing and I just couldn't find it.
Anyway, I was watching some older videos of Magic the Gathering Rotisserie Drafts and thought, that could be a neat idea to try in League. Essentially, it would work like this: 2 teams would draft as normal, (I think bans wouldn't be necessary, given how the draft plays out), using 10 unique champions. Then, the next time teams are picked all champions are available except the previously picked 10, (for example if somebody plays Janna she would no longer be available for the remainder of the draft). Champions that are considered lower tier suddenly become much better under a more limited pool, creating Meta shifts on a draft-to-draft basis. There are 126 champions so 1 would be left over assuming it got that far.
While I think this could be a neat way of exploring interesting and diverse champions and team compositions, (without being as restrictive as say, "Melee Champs Only" or something), I do think it has potential faults, the first of which being champion pools. Not everyone has all champions unlocked. I myself am still missing about 20 or so, whereas that 20 might be all someone else has. I've thought of a few solutions, none of which are elegant.
**1) **Do the match a set period of time after the draft(s) to give people time to unlock champs they need to play, or trade. This comes with the downside of people losing interest as the gap between games and drafts grow.
2) Only do a couple rounds of the draft before resetting the pool. This loses some of the draw of "diversity" since the pool only drops to about 80-90, but allows more people on average to try it. This also keeps each overall draft down to a couple hours, which is more manageable.
3) In a somewhat opposite fashion to the previous, rotate the players after a number of round(s) but keep the pool lowering until the end. This can create both a diverse champ and player pool, while still keeping each individual's commitment down to an hour or two, leaving them to spectate (and leave or join) as they choose. This relies heavily on having enough people willing to participate though, especially as the pool gets smaller.
Also, while these drafts are normally done winding/snake style (if 4 people were drafting the picks would go 1-2-3-4-4-3-2-1-1...), I think League's built-in draft system works better. Though, if there were enough teams to do a round robin tournament it could be cool to do it like that.
Any comments or suggestions would be really appreciated, or links if there was something like this already done.
