What do I think of the Battle Academy skinline? (Mainly issues)
I think everyone is aware at this point that the new series is revealed and everyone is talking about it (mainly for negative views from my perspective). And while I don't want to feel like I'm jumping on a bandwagon, I still do have to voice my opinions/thoughts on the new skins.
So instead of going straight for the issues, let's just briefly get the positives out of the way:
- I do feel the series captures the nature of anime well, specifically battle-training school sub-genre, like My Hero Academia. Though I do feel it's weird that we're getting another anime skin line even though we already have SG, but whatever I guess.
- Ezreal skin does hit a good notes of anime tropes, like toast in mouth, animation on dance, references, and sounding like an American dub (subs are better in my opinion).
- ...it's colorful
Yeah, I don't really have too much else other than that, so let me be like everyone else right now and start ripping into the issue with this series that many are complaining about: THE CHOICES FOR THE SERIES,** MAINLY EZ AND LUX!** Someone at Riot please give me a reason, outside of them being popular champs for skins to sell, as to why they were chosen to be in this series when they're both already in another anime inspired skin line! We already got them in Star Guardian, it's a good fit for them.
But to then shove them into another anime skin series just feels redundant. And even then, didn't they get those rehashed SG skins with the pajamas a couple of months ago? You really couldn't wait another full year or longer to give them another skin?
The rest of the cast is...OK? Jayce I can see as fine as he hasn't gotten a skin in a couple of years. Katarina, sure, why not (though she has more than enough skins right now). Yuumi, new champ so nothing I can really complain about her. Graves?!?! He had a skin in November, now he's getting another one? Why?!
Did Riot really not have enough options of over 100 champs to launch a new skin series with confidence? We could've gotten say
to finally get a non-Esports skin after she's been screwed out of one since her launch,
as the professor,
as the combat enthusiast/bully jock, just at least a few other options of champs other than Riot's got- skin seller, cash grabbers. When Riot just keeps using these same champs over and over again, it just doesn't feel like any other champs are worth their time to them.
Overall, I think it looks good but I'm not at all impressed. It just feels like Riot is trying to play it too safe by keeping Ez and Lux in it. I'm peeved that these champs are chosen because they just sell skins and that Riot couldn't have picked other champs that are in need of skins or could start building a bigger collection, compared to those who already have massive collections. It'll probably get those who really don't care about their money, but for me, with how little interest it is generating for me, I think I'll pass.
