Brand and Shurima...

So I remember a Rioter, about 2 or 3 years ago during Taliyah's release, who implied that Brand was the "Beast made of living fire" who was ORIGINALLY entrapped in Xerath's sarcophagus, but was freed by Xerath to distract Nasus and Renekton.

Is this still true? Is Brand the name of a spirit that took Kegan's body, or is Brand really just a name that people call him now? If so, what does 'Brand' mean anyway and why do people call him that now?

It was never actually stated that Brand was the creature trapped in Xerath's sarcophagus; implied, yes, but as we know, Riot's lore team is very prone to changing their minds about unfinished products (ie Nautilus, the Darkin, and so-on.) I guess they decided that they couldn't find a way to explain how the fire beast made its way all the way from Shurima to the Freljord, so they just decided to scrap that part altogether and have Brand be a man corrupted a World Rune.

I honestly kind of prefer this version, since taking over host bodies in the Darkin gimmick now.

Brand is what Ryze calls Kegan after he was corrupted by a world rune they found in what id guess was freljord since thats where kegan is from.

No, seems the lore team didn't have the imagination to give Brand an original backstory, so they just more or less copy-pasted the backstory that they've given to virtually every other monster: an ordinary man who by a quirk of fate is corrupted by magic into a twisted inhuman creature.
