Demacia is an incredibly isolated area. Targon is a REALLY distant region, half an ocean away to the south.
They REALLY didn't like this guy if their punishment was throwing him that far away.
Well when you skip your duty to sketch cave drawings and end up getting your platoon killed people tend to not like you.
To be fair, Taric kinda chose to climb Targon. Most who are sentenced to that punishment just leave Demacia and never come back.

And despite all the speculations Demacia is as small as i thought. most people thought its a Vast nation.
Like Taric's bio said, it was mostly an exile. Most of the punished didn't actually make the journey to climb the mountain.
Given This piece of information I think it wasn't all that far. Sure it was a hastle, but if he used a boat, he probably had no more than 1 1/2 months to arrive to targon. Runeterra is much smaller than thought.

Isnt exile to targon more of "dude just fuck off. say thx it isnt death penalty" People go into exile there but almost no one dumb enough to actually go to targon so they just scram somewhere and spend remainder of their life thinking how good it was in Demacia?
I think on the Reddit AMA they said they actually edited the map to move Demacia further from Targon expressly because of Taric's exile and its severity.
It makes me wonder if Demacia claims the islands west of Targon, also I wonder if Brand has anything to do with that volcanic looking island in the northwest of freljord

Do u guys think Taric sailed to Targon or that he walked/ rode his way their? Its supposed to be a pillgramage site I think people walk to those not sail to them, but what do u guys think?

The recent God King Garen lore had Demacia ruling everything.
Now in cannon lore it's revealed to be mearly a single city-nation like Wakanda
You know what it makes me realise? Riot would rather put the effort into a worthless map than fixing the game.
