League of Legends Log-in Theme World Cup: Ionia Group
It's time to see who has Runeterra's best entrance music! We'll be moving through each of the regions, with the top two themes from each region advancing. If an entrant doesn't have a regular log-in screen theme, then a skin theme of theirs, if any, will be chosen- and if they don't have a skin theme either, I'll just make up a paragraph or two of whatever I think their log-in screen music would sound like. Now, I'm sure you have a favorite or two, but I want to encourage you to listen to the themes(at least, the ones with available music) before voting just to give them all a chance.
Now, in the Ionia group, we will have: Ahri Akali Irelia Jhin
Karma Dominated by two themes/groups of instruments. First are the usual Ionian wind instruments, and also string instruments; the strings are playing more ambient chords, while the flute carries the melody. In the background of that is the main percussion instrument: water; the other percussion instruments are wood blocks and chimes/bells. The winds melody flows a little like birdsong, but follows a strongly oriental chord progression.
The water has waterfall-like roars for "drum rolls" and splashes for cymbals; the chimes come to the fore and take up the chord progression, with the wood blocks now following that same kind of fast birdsong- type of rhythm. These two instrument sections of course meet during the theme, the wood blocks accenting the high notes of the winds, and the chimes harmonizing with the strings, and then the music dies down to just the water and flute before looping.
Kayn (Shadow Form, Darkin Form both count as Kayn!)
Kennen Starts off with a lightning strike and a loud clap of thunder before launching straight into a strongly percussion-driven piece, with the melody being done with a wind instrument. The "danger" of the piece is done with percussion breaks, which are capped off by a thunderclap as the different subjects enter; there is also a section where the percussion keeps up the tempo but fades in volume to let the melody take on a haunting/ethereal mood. The overall mood is lively and playful, but not without its hidden facets.
Lee Sin Master Yi Xayah & Rakan
Shen Immediately pulls you in with a melancholy air- the melodies and chord progressions are very traditional on a technical level. Though not quite a counterpoint or fugue, the melody seems to sort of quietly answer itself in a type of dialogue, reflecting the struggles and hardships Shen has endured; the percussion is quiet, mainly there to keep things solid and give a sense of rhythmic motion. The instruments come from the established Ionian palette, though a gong sounds at the ends of the sections.
Syndra Varus Wukong (YES this one is stretching it a bit but since he's the only champ on screen why not?) Zed
