A) Fizz is Wukong's friend B) Fizz and Wukong have special allied interactions that would put Xayah and Rakan to shame!
For 6 years Wukong has had this spin off "Journey To The West" lore and it needs to be updated. Some originalality would be nice. I love J2W but Wukong has potential to be something so much greater than Yi's pet in League of Legends!
Also, a new gorilla champion would make a nice rival to the Monkey Kong!
Question: How do you intend to boycott the lore? I don't believe Riot sells any lore based content or profit directly off of lore stuff. And even if they did, it's not their main source of profits. So the "Don't buy it" route won't work.
Are you simply not going to read the lore or anything? That's pointless seeing how a good portion of the playerbase don't heavily follow the lore anyway, especially the more casual or esports centric crowd. One more person not reading the lore isn't going to change anything.

Yeah, Wukong used to be directly related to Journey of the West, but Riot wants to make him less of an homage and more of an original character.
