Nautilus and Illaoi

Ok, so firstly I know this is late to the game but it took me a while to really stop and think about this. Secondly, I am unsure if this is where it goes as this is my first time posting. Anyways, I main Nautilus and I have been wondering about the link between him and Illaoi, and I may have come up with an idea and want your opinions. So, in Nautilus's backstory, it says he was grabbed by tentacles and dragged down into the black ooze and then awoke to find himself bonded to the diving suit. Well we know Illaoi's god doesn't live in the oceans, she said it lives inside us. But, it is still a god of the seas and is worshiped by most in Bilgewater and has been for a long time. So while it may not have been what dragged Nautilus down, I got to thinking this: What if it WAS what gave nautilus his power? What if Nautilus was chosen as worthy by Nagakabouros and was given a second chance? He was a sailor from Bilgewater, and the god is known to 'test' people as stated when Illaoi takes your soul or when you move with her. I'm still fleshing out details but, this does seem plausible no? For example, what if while being dragged down, Nautilus never stopped fighting, it said he gripped the anchor for dear life and even dragged it down with him. Of course this is all speculation, just curious about what y'all think.

Personally, considering Nautilus is listed as a rival of Illaoi, I recon his powers come from some god who opposes Nagakabouros in Illaoi's religion. It's already stated that the Buhru people have more than one god, and so I can definetly see a space where the black goop that transformed Nautilus originated from what Illaoi would say is an enemy of Nagakabouros.

Stemming from that, I recon Illaoi's got some intel on some Marai/whatever the fuck Fizz's people are called. Again I'm wondering if there's a god or two involved with them, but time will tell I'm sure.

Come to think of it, Nautilus' quotes do mention him constantly moving forward and endlessly marching. He's always in motion.

if i remeber correctly during the harrowing Nautilus could be seen fighting off hords of gouls and spirits perhaps some god decided that bildgewater needed some sort of defence wallto make sure it couldnt have got overrun to the point there would be no resistance. or that black goo drowned the sailor and isnted of letting his spirit be enslaved in the shadow isles nagakabouros bound his soul to the suit as he died while fighing to stay afloat while getting dragged down by something unnatural .i dont know tho

He might have been punished by nagakabouros for something, his form doesn't seem like much of a present......

I love Nautilus too, and he is listed as a rival for Illaoi. What I'm thinking is that either Nautilus was given his power (or curse) by a rival god to Illaoi's, or he was supposed to have his spirit ripped away from him by the god. But instead, only his body left him and his soul bound to the suit he is trapped in when he died. So Illaoi sees his very existence as an active defiance to her god's ideals.

I don't believe Naga would have given Nautilus that type of second chance, because it absolutely hates undead. That's why the Black Mists are such a enemy of Nagakabouros. In the story, it tells mention of a "elderly caller" in a robe, resembling a krakken, and "faded kraken ink" giving him the illusion of being draped in "rough-hewn tentacles". His face was completely covered by a black tattoo depicting the "endless" teeth of a leviathan’s maw. When I think of the "endless teeth of a leviathan's maw", I can only imagine the endless grasp of death. I believe the seer was having a vision of Nautilus being dragged to the depths by tendrils, only to be met with an endless, and vengeful death. So for him to have this vision, makes me believe Nagakabouros was at least somewhat responsible for Nautilus's demise.

The caller also mentions at one point that “The greatest beasts won’t approach Bilgewater,” he says “They stay out in the deep water, away from the stench of the Slaughter Docks. At best, a few "half-starved younglings" will heed our summons.” When I think of half-starved, maybe I take this wrong. But I believe that maybe it could have been an incident where the "younglings" may have grabbed Nautilus and pulled him into the depths, because they were "half-starved". The ink that Nautilus and his crew spotted was more than likely a krakken, and it was a tentacle that pulled him down. One that was big enough to cause panic to the crew. Was it perhaps Nagakabouros passing judgement, and Nautilus's spirit was just too driven with vengeance to die? Or was it maybe the half-starved children of Nagakabouros?

I believed at one point that the black mist could have done this, and Nagakabouros turned it's back on Bilgewater, due to the constant neglect of the water near their docks. But I believe it all comes back around to Illaoi's God.

The other theory is that Nautilus is a Darkin which would make sense since all the thus-far-supposed Darkin have weapons which are linked to them in some way...

Interesting idea, but in my opinion Nagakabouros doesn't sound malevolent enough to be what created Nautilus. I've always figured that the black ooze was explicitly evil (though I could be wrong).

Also Naut's lore doesn't mention anything about tentacles. "Something" pulled him down, but it's not specified.
