So Blast has said that the champ is not Sylas.

This could be a lie. But maybe it's not.

He said we'd be shook. Which makes me think it's someone from previous Demacian lore. https://streamable.com/fk1o8

Yeah nah, I 'd believe him if the name Sylas didn't have so much damn context behind it.

The name Sylas (more commonly spelled as Silas) means "wood," "forest" or "of the forest" in latin and originates from Sylvanus, the Roman god of forests.... Which doesn't sound all that all that important until you remember that petricite - the stuff that Demacians use to nullify and repel magic - is made from giant, petrified, magic-absorbing trees. And what does Sylas do in his short story? He accidentally absorbs a mage-girl's magic before repelling it outward, killing her and two other people in the process. And it fits all too well with the teaser images, which show champions having their own magic (ults) used against them.

Even more peculiar - the name could be a reference to Saint Silas, a biblical figure who was persecuted, beaten and imprisoned for professing his faith and exorcising the evil spirit out of a possessed slave girl. He escaped life-long imprisonment when a divine earthquake broke the chains on his shackles and destroyed his prison cell door. So he's often depicted with unchained shackles on his wrists in Christian art. And remember what Odin Shafer said about Demacia? He said Demacia was heading for a major "shake-up" very, very soon.

Sooo... yeah. Name and magic abilities being an indirect reference to petricite? Check. Name referring to a biblical figure who was persecuted, imprisoned and enchained for being 'different?' Check. Earthquake freeing said biblical figure from imprisonment paralleling a potential, massive earthquake that will likely devastate Demacia just in time for the new champion reveal? Check.

Sorry, but Sylas is the new champ.

But if he really isn't the new champ then Sylas will, at the very least, play a **huge ** part in the champion's lore; he might even be the one who manages to create an earthquake that frees him/her from their imprisonment.

I bet it's the Alistar rework again. Alistar Unchained is it's own champion now!

Maybe it's the fabled quinn rework, and valor is his own champ..

how many bird champs do we have? None of them are really birds

it's so clear now

Hm. I wonder who could provoke the "shook" reaction....

J3 is right out, just because I doubt they'd implement a character with a nigh identical name to another.

Senna would probably have had a different sort of buildup, but the new champ does use chains, so maybe she turned the tables on Thresh?

I doubt it's Quinn's brother, as he's not only pretty definitively dead but also implied to be reincarnated as Valor, so yeah.

Durand? Maybe, the gilded elements do evoke Galio, but how would he have stayed alive this long, and why would the constructor of Demacia's ultimate protector now seemingly desire its destruction?

Who else... another Minotaur? Shyvana's sorta dad? General du Couteau? Volibear's Demacian version? The Aspect of Shook?

I’m expecting something dumb like a previous Jarvan (they can get around this with codename), an engineered clone of J4, or Jarvan’s kid/brother/sister he didn’t know about. If it’s one of these three I will first laugh then cry.

If we will be shook by it and his not exaggerating this then it’s someone with a relation to a champion already here. Since Jarvan’s teaser image was the most dichotomy one I’m expecting huge Jarvan connection.

Lol, maybe it’s the other mage seeker and it turns out the PoV switched without us realizing. Because in the end of the heart of Demacia, I thought Sylas had “stolen”/drawn in the girl’s powers and used them himself... which ties into the teaser images we saw of the champs in chains: they’re using their ults... seemingly not of their own volition.

I was mainly hoping it would be Sylas because Sylas is a cool name lol. It just sounds... cool. Ah well

They also said Jax isn't corrupted by the Void, even though he's purple and has like 7 eyes.

Riot seems to be taking things that should be obvious, like the new champion being Sylas, and just turns it 180 degrees.

I would have imagined it was the kayle rework, as she's demacian, and I can see the golden chains + smiting fittng with her.

Busty Demon1/8/2019, 11:36:06 AM1 votes

Too bad. Sylas would have been a cool name!

This is the first time I noticed so much mystery surrounding the champ since Jhin.

Wrathful Chicken1/8/2019, 3:22:53 PM1 votes

It's Sylas, you can't be serious.

Rito plz

With the way he draws from what others already have, might as well be called Stylus.
