What's gonna Xerath do? What's the plan of writers?
I want to talk about Xerath today, since it has been a long time I had talked about him. (I'm "kinda" obsessed as some of you know lol).
Xerath is the champion I'm most excited when we have a lore piece. If I was a writer, I would just focus on Xerath and make every champion related to him so I would have him more. I love him so much. That's why I search for Xerath interactions when we get VGU's and new champions, sadly, almost all the time I'm disappointed.
So, why am I here?
Xerath's story was retconned, people were triggered bla bla. We all know the story. A lot people were disappointed about the first arc of Shurima story and there was a lot reaction aiming Riot, it was almost Varus level bad. Witch hunting. No joke.
As a Xerath fan, I was the opposite! I promise I liked the old Xerath lore too, but there was something missing. I couldn't see the story developing. It was all but Xerath trying to be free. That's it. He was flat, tbh.
New Xerath on the other hand has so much potential and paths to follow. There are so many ways to carry him. He has goals (not just one), struggles, desires, emotions. He is a living character now. Old Xerath was super dull. He did not even have grudge against the Shuriman Mages. Someone that ambitious is unlikely (though not impossible) to be that analitic. When someone stops you from reaching to your goal, you hate them. Especially when your quotes are far more active and arguably hateful. It could be just me though.
For the reactions, writers, like Jaredan, WAAARGHbobo and Dinopawz, said Xerath is not the ultimate evil and he is a relatable character, that he is not even close to be redempted but still will have changes in his personality. Something good! Something mix of old and new lore. Something both side of Xerath fans could have and share.
And what did we get? After Bloodline people's reactions were "Holy shit Xerath went full evil overlord" "Not evil LUL" "Xerath is the biggest asshole of lore ever". And this mentions were before Bloodline. They literally said Xerath is not that evil and he is more complex than being pure black, and what we had is Xerath's sadistic laugh among the screams shurimans have as their flesh is about to turn ashes.
Was it something planned and said even after Bloodline? Were you joking? Or just your mind changed?
What is the plan?
Will Xerath be the dark grey character of LoL? Or Mordekaiser 2?
Note: I will support and love Xerath whatever you do unless you fuck up lore so much (that doesn't mean you should fuck up his lore). I like evil Xerath too. I said it before. I actually love it. But I also support grey Xerath too. Tbh, I would prefer it over evil Xerath since what most people want is grey Xerath, closer to original, because when I love both, I would want majority to be happy too.
TL:DR Will Xerath's personality be softer, less dark and more grey as you promised 1 years ago? That's what I want to learn.
