@Riot: Portals, Are we Thinking with Them?

So, we have a few champions and stories involving portals.

Now, I don't want to make things weird, but Kassadin is briefly stepping into the Void when he riftwalks, right?

Then in the Twilight of the Gods, we see the Aspect of Twilight teach the Darkin Ta'anari to riftwalk...

Here is his description of riftwalking

A terrible sensation of hurtling through an unending vortex overcame him, a tunnel surrounded by hideous monsters that lurked just beyond the threshold... The sensation lasted a fraction of a second only, but felt like an age.

Does that mean that Zoe's portals are also going through the Void, and when she uses them it feels like a lifetime surrounded by mind melting monstrosities?
