What I Want From a Potential Kumungu Update

I am personally hoping the flower mage champ will be a Yordle just so we can get the long awaited Yordle update. We've been getting drip fed Yordle changes like them becoming spirits and how Yordles aren't really part of the World Stage as openly as they once were and must now use glamours to appear human (at least in Valoran). If there however is a chance that the flower champ is from Kumungu and if that is the case then I would like to share what I would personally like to see from Kumungu if it were to be explored as the newest region. (I wish Riot would just update it for the hell of it, but you know what they say about synchronized product launches). Anyways...

  • Kumungu should be the most sparsely populated region in all of Runeterra barring Icathia and the surrounding Void-lands. This is reflected in the fact that only two champions call it home. If their are other people living there they should mostly be disparate tribes or perhaps a hidden society deep in the heart of the jungle based on Mayans or Inca people (I smell a Nidalee lore update)

  • Kumungu was the site of some ancient magical happening in the past. The old lore states: "Much of that world still bears the scars of past Rune Wars, especially the mysterious Kumungu Jungle. There are long-forgotten treasures in these strange places which many risk life and limb to acquire". Many magical anomalies can be found in Kumungu, (hopefully I am not crossing over too much with Ionia) these anomalies are not excluding: floating rock structures (a la Pandora from Avatar!), places that have asynchronous time dilation relative to the rest of the world and magically enhanced fauna and flora (I smell a Zyra lore update). I hope that the difference will be that while Ionia has naturally occurring magic, Kumungu is more the result of reckless meddling. A lot of the new story elements in League deal with the dangers of abusing magic. Icathia bringing back the Void against Ancient Shurima, the Targonians used magical rituals to create the Darkin and the Ruined King causing the Ruination by trying to revive his wife. I want Kumungu to be sort of a Chernobyl for the Rune War in keeping with this theme. It's not as blasted and scarred in most places because of the wild overgrowth (which may or may not be a result from overexposure to magic) but the damage is still there.

  • Kumungus' proximity to the Void should be addressed. I think Runeterra is very lucky that they unleashed the eldritch horror that feeds off of all life in a mostly barren desert. We know from the Kai'Sa Void update that the Void is a massive organism that feeds off biological life and dies when not in the present of it. Well much of the Shuriman landscape is slowing the growth of this doomsday and Runeterrans should really be counting their lucky stars for that. Of course the horror sets in when you realize that the proximity of Icathia to Kumungu is downright frightening. If even a bit of Void gets into the teeming mass of the junglethe growth rate of the biomass would be greatly accelerated, not to mention that Kumungu is no doubt home to fearsome predator that would only become even more dangerous if they become Void corrupted. In fact by now it should have already happened considering that Kumungu and Icathia rub right up against each other. It would be cool if there was some secret society cutting away massive swathes of the jungle (wink wink) so that that the Void cannot find a foorhold. Would be even cooler if they were using World Runes left after the War in a "controlled" manner to raze parts of the jungle that are at risk for Void rash.

Ryze will remember that

What are your guys thoughts on Kumungu. What would you like to see Riots Worldbuilding team try?

I just want a Zyra update so much, not only story wise but all her design, animation and voice also, and same could apply to Nidalee they're both too outdated.

With Zyra's new bio, it is stated that she was born form an ancient sorcerous catastrophe, she could maybe become some sort of demon ? I'm expecting nothing from Riot at this point with Zyra, they tossed her in the bin for 6 years, and improved nothing about her, they just "fixed" her model 3 years ago with the mage update, and gave her another death animation...

At least they have to make her the stereotypical villainous Poison Ivy clone...

The connection you made between Kumungu and the Void is really interesting and in fact has already taken root in champs like Khazix.

However, personally I'd like to see another Killash from the Kumungu. A fullsized one that plays more like a Diver/ bruiser opposed to Rengar.

Hoping that the kiilash are part of the kumungu jungle(since there is a big jungle area on the shuriman continent and Rengar is from Shurima).

In general I feel like Riot should expand on some of the vastaya tribes,as most are currently just there to justify the existence of the vastaya champions.

I'm wondering if we'll get some more information of Vastaya, since Nidalee is supposed to be part Vastaya. Maybe Ahri's tribe is there, for all we know. On the whole I'd just really like a Nidalee update, and I do think it would fit if she were from a Native American-based culture, particularly one from the jungle like the Mayans or Aztecs.

We've only got two champs from there Honestly, they'll probably get moved and Kumungu scrapped, like what happened to the Plague Jungles and Voodoo Lands

Aren't Rengar, Kha'zix, Nidalee and Wukong from Kumungu?

I kind of want Kumugu to be on a different continent. Kumugu could be like the Americas of Runeterra.

Personally I'd love to see, more than anything, some of the twisted wildlife. Blue Sentinels and Bramblebacks are both from Kumungu, and I'd love to see more instances of that; creatures given shape/life just from the sheer overflow of magic there. They don't even have to be full-on species; just mutated wild life.
