Don't pitchfork me, I'm actually gay. I believe it's because they've completely butchered the previous lore without expanding on it. Varus was a character with a tragic background, who literally threw his own life away in order to seek vengeance on those who culled his family by memory. Now we essentially have a carbon copy of Kayn/Rhaast, throwing in LGBT into the mix for next to no reason. If Riot was looking for LGBT representation, Vi/Caitlyn would of been good to expand on, or even TF/Graves for fuck sakes, since they actually have some form of a basis for it. But completely taking a character that already had a perfectly fine lore and background and turning it into this convoluted mess is just tragic in itself. People have a right to be upset, LGBT should be represented naturally, not shoehorned in for a plot device on a characters lore. Homosexuality is a sexual preference, not a personality/plot device. Trying to shove that into people's faces, especially in a game that is renown for its toxicity and for the most part teenage/young adult playerbase that can be ridiculously immature at times, that's when people will get upset.

Let me preface this. I'm bisexual. I've enjoyed both sides of the coin. Though I don't feel the previous statement should validate or disqualify my opinion, I wanted to make that clear should it come into question.

Okay. I am perfectly fine with a champion being gay. I don't applaud it, I don't vilify it. In this day and age it really should just be an aspect of a character, not some kind of artistic statement.

This is exactly what Varus has become, a bold edgy statement. I'm distracted from the beautiful aesthetics and music of the video by the heavy-handed errata of the Arrow of Retribution's lore. It feels so needless. Surely this could have been just as easily told through a new champion without uplifting all that was known about Varus.

So far I've seen two threads that mention the gay characters, this one included, and the other one isn't exactly anti-gay.

All other posts I've seen are complaining about completely abandoning the old character in favor of this new story.

Technically we still don't have a champion. Varus is not gay. He is the darkin one.

Valmar and Kai are side characters (though pretty significant ones).

I would prefer a gay actual champion to this but oh well, they are nicely written and damn unique. Like they created a big distance for Varus from other champions.

Varus got a really good spot in lore now. So I really can't complain.
