Season 9 Skins: General Predictions and Guesses

So, Season 8 is almost over, and we now know the skins we'll be getting in its last patch. So now it's time to make predictions about what could be coming in Season 9! Of course, Riot could always surprise us with totally new stuff too; this is just a thread for speculation on stuff we already know about. Bear with me; this might be a long list.

Guaranteed Annual Events:

Lunar Revel: Next year is the year of the pig, so we should be expecting a nice pretty Sejuani skin with Bristle all decked up, considering that she hasn't had one since last season. Probably accompanied by some other skins, just hopefully not another Lux skin.

Heartbreakers: No idea who could get these skins this year. Could be anyone. Hopefully not someone with an overloaded line of skins like MissFortune though. Maybe we'll get Sweetheart Ivern for all I know.

April Fools: I see several people clamoring for Neeko to get a Definitely Not Neeko skin, and I'm totally on board with that. Plus, I'd love to defictionalize another meme by having Pizza Delivery Azir teaching his great-great-granddaughter Sivir how the job is done. "The order is given!"

Pool Party: I know this event didn't happen in the season before this one, but it's still a near-guarantee. As for what we could get, how about making some of the background Pool Party Champions into realities? Pool Party Morgana? Pool Party Orianna? Pool Party Aatrox? And yes, even though people complain about her constant skins, how about getting Pool Party Jinx already? It was even her teaser in the first Pool Party event before she was released.

Halloween/the Harrowing: If Mordekaiser's rework happens before this, I'd hope we can finally get a new awesome skin for him here. If it happens around this time, then I hope we do get a proper harrowing with some new spooky spectral skins. Something new for RekSai, maybe.

Snowdown: Well, this one is a long ways away, so it really all depends on which champs get what and when next year! But I do hope that, now that Kayn's been spoiled with his second skin being a legendary one, we can get the Candy Kayn skin we all want next year. And, if Riot really wants to strain the fans and wait that long, at least give us Festive Ivern. I do hope they'll give him a second skin before that though. Seeing Yi's new skin also makes me think of a Snowman Galio, whom I think would make a much better one, given that he's an actual statue brought to life in his main lore.

Mid-Season Conqueror/Challenger, IG Worlds skins, Championship, and Victorious: All depends on how the meta goes and which champs IG choose, but I'm 99% sure that at least Kaisa will be the IG adc skin. It'll follow the trend of the most recent ADC being the one who wins Worlds for the fourth year in a row (with the exception of Kindred, who is played in the jungle much more often anyway).

Missing Skin Universes in Season 8 that could get an event:

Star Guardian: This is the big one, and Riot hinted that they'd be taking a break from it for this year, likely to flesh out some of the more recently-unified skin universes like High Noon, Elderwood (now Eclipse), and Event Horizon. However, many people, myself included, have had very eager hopes for who could be the next Star Guardian team and where the universe could go next, whether its game mode could come back, whether it could get a new one, and all sorts of things. My personal predictions that I made back in summer for a potential event this year are not as relevant now, but I still am betting that at least Taric, Tristana, and Sona will be in the next batch. All of them would fit perfectly in the theme, the first two have had a good amount of time since their last skins, and with Sona, many fans were rather disappointed with her Odyssey skin and were hoping for this one instead. This would certainly make it up.

Project/Program/Battlecast/Resistance: And even Mecha, even though AurelionSol got one of those skins this year. Yes, I'm lumping all the cyberpunk skin lines together, because I and several others were let down when they were split apart to not get too complicated. I did hear at least one Rioter say they could be retied together, but if that happens, I hope it's not because of Pulsefire jumping and they're actually made into one universe. Truth be told, I'm not sure who could get one of these skins next, but a couple good candidates could be Sivir and XinZhao; their moves could look great with any kind of tech particles added. And what about a Battlecast RekSai? Seriously, she needs a new skin already. I'm also wondering if Silverfang Akali is going to come into either one of these skin lines, since the aesthetic is sort of in between PROJECT and Battlecast.

Super Galaxy: Aha! The perfect line for an Ivern skin! If Kindred can get one, so can he, and I think it could be really cool and creative to give him a colorful tech aesthetic, and make Daisy into a golem-mech thing. Several other champions could get one of these skins too: Super Galaxy Jayce, with a transforming mech hammer? Super Galaxy Nunu, where Willump mech is much nicer than Willump Bot? Super Galaxy Corki could be cool too, even though his last skin was also tech-themed. Maybe Riot could even come up with an interesting concept for a Super Galaxy Yorick with mini undead mechs and a Maiden mech, and while that might be straying a little too far from his main theme, we have Malzahar as a snowball fighter, Morgana as a cake baker and now DrMundo as an ice prince. Anything is possible.

Arcade: I predicted that Heimerdinger might get his next skin in this line if an Arcade event were done this year, but they gave us something even more awesome instead (even though he's the first legendary skin to not get a login in years Heimerdingeritem 3070). I still think this skin would be awesome on him, however, and maybe this could prevent him from being getting passed by for another three or four years. Rumble, Syndra, Orianna, and Vi are just some of the other candidates that could work really well with this theme. And some new Battle Bosses could be Zyra, Velkoz, Xerath, Chogath or maybe even Kled.

Blood Moon: We definitely need some more Blood Moon skins next year. All we got this year was a 975 RP Blood Moon Evelynn, and even that was overshadowed by Beemo. There are some champions that are really begging for a Blood Moon skin too, such as Zed, Kindred, Hecarim, Karthus, Kassadin, Malzahar, Aatrox, Fiddlesticks, Vladimir, Khazix...the list could probably go on for a little while. Riot, give us some more awesome brutal Blood Moon skins!

Omen of the Dark: This is one of the few big recently-unified alternate universes that hasn't gotten a proper event yet, although it's been hinted to have some connection as stories in the Eclipse universe (though I doubt they're connected, since Lissandra has a skin in both). I'd definitely enjoy seeing this Dark Souls-esque fantasy universe be explored, and some champions that might fit this universe well are Leblanc, Morgana, Kalista, Zilean and even Aatrox.

Some Skin Universes I'd Like To Come Back:

Eclipse: This is personal taste, but I love how this universe has been expanded! It seems like it could be one of those really hard, really immersive fantasy games, or even just a really intriguing fantasy series. The subsets of this series certainly need to each be fleshed out more, especially the Death Blossoms; Zyra, Nocturne, and maybe even Jhin (mainly because of his traps) could be interesting candidates. Yorick and Udyr, two champions significantly lacking in skins, could also be great for Elderwood skins. Syndra and Cassiopeia could also be good candidates for Coven. I also think it's highly likely that Viridian Kayle will be made part of this universe, maybe as the patron angel/goddess of Taric's Emerald Chapel.

High Noon: While I think I like this universe even more than Eclipse, I don't feel like the High Noon event unified the strewn-out Western skins as well as the former. High Noon Lucian, Thresh, and Urgot took a significantly more hellish turn, which was like nothing seen out of the High Noon skins before, and while I generally like the tone of the skins themselves, I feel like the universe needs one more batch of skins to bring it all together. Lucian's lore mentioned a lot of potential candidates for a High Noon skin, like TahmKench, Hecarim, and even Viktor and Blitzcrank in a cattlepunk style of steampunk tech. Maybe we could get Reverend Karthus and Kayle as a Knight Templar-esque angel he worships, since she was mentioned too. And of course, some more obvious candidates for this skin line, purely for their main lore theme, are Graves and Kled. Pyke might not be a bad choice either.

Pulsefire: Similar to High Noon, the Pulsefire universe was updated a few times this year, but I feel like it could use one more event to tie it all together. Are the Praetorians clones of real people in the Pulsefire universe, or are they self-made clones? What's the deal with the Remembrancers, and how right are they? How bad actually is that future and what are the motives of the lesser-explored skins like Pulsefire Shen and TwistedFate? As for skins, some champions that might go really well with this skin like are Talon (time assassin/Fixer), Fiora (roams time looking for a challenge) or even Garen (Fixer policeman similar to Pulsefire Caitlyn, but with an extra dose of JUSTICE!).

Steel Valkyries: Even though this skin line includes an ultimate skin, I feel it is sorely underdeveloped at the moment and could really use to be fleshed out, besides the fleshing out we got about Gun Goddess MissFortune. I would really like to know more about Bullet Angel Kaisa in particular, because I feel this skin's lore does her personality justice and, if explored, can at least satisfy a lot of the complaints people say about her character being too bland in this alternate universe. Personally, I also think this is the second universe to which Odyssey is closely connected; we know the first one is Event Horizon. But similar to Odyssey, this universe also has a distinct comic book-space opera feel (clearly inspired by the MCU to some degree), and that can even extend to the giant superbeings of the cosmos in Event Horizon. If these three universes are all connected, I would love to see Riot go all out with an insane, larger-than-life space opera story. Particular to the Steel Valkyries, some good candidates could be Vi, Quinn, Katarina, or maybe Sivir. For the Dreadnova subset, we can always have Darius's little brother Draven tag along, since he would actually fit the aesthetic pretty well, and maybe Jayce or Tryndamere.

And while on the subject of Event Horizon, I think Karthus, Malzahar, RekSai, Xerath and TahmKench could all be great candidates for Dark Star skins, certainly more than JarvanIV was in most people's opinion. For the Cosmic skins, it's not so clear who could specifically fit, but I'd say Irelia could be a good choice, and Kennen, since cosmic yordles are a thing as of Cosmic Enchantress Lulu.

Whew! That's all I got for now, and this took a while to write! What do you guys predict for next year's skins? Is there anything I passed over that you'd like to see? And what new stuff might Riot come up with that we wouldn't expect?
