After Reading Eye in the Abyss Kaisa Confuses Me

Or confuses me more, I guess.

I've been away for a while and a decided to read through the new lore that has popped up over the last year. Some real stellar stuff, by the way. But after reading Eye in the Abyss Kaisa's story stretches credibility even more than it did at release.

Apparently Void-stuff is about as virulent as The Thing (the flesh blob one, not the rock dude or the crawling hand). One scratch and you are absolutely hosed unless you get an emergency amputation. Void matter will hollow you out like a Jack-O-Lantern and use your corpse as an egg to spit a screeching abomination into the physical world.

So...

Why didn't the voidling that latched onto her arm digest her then and there? How the hell did she manage to wound the nasty little thing considering that she was a frail normal human with a knife and an Iceborn hacking at a voidling with all of their might using a mundane weapon couldn't wound the gribbly?

Has something else been said to explain this? Or have we been left in the dark over a pretty incongruous bit of lore?

The way I interpret it is there were a few reasons why:

  1. The corruption from Eye in the Abyss came directly from a watcher and was more potent. The parasite that merged with Kai'Sa was from other void constructs.

  2. There are many different types of void constructs, perhaps not all of them consume quickly, giving her time to survive.

  3. It was a young or recently born void construct, so it was still adapting, and ended up forming a symbiotic relation with Kai'Sa as it was the most efficient way to adapt.

Still, don't think about it too much, how did she eat or get nutrients while underground, water, vitamin D? Was Kai'Sa really worth the maintenance? Why does her void suit kill other void things? It hasn't yet been fully explained, and it will all probably just be hand waved when it is.

Eye in the Abyss was done via the direct influence of a Watcher. Those dudes are the gods of the Void.

Kai'Sa fell into a cavern filled with void-stuff. Still dangerous, but it doesn't have intent, and it doesn't have nearly the same level of power. The thing in the howling abyss was an actual Voidborn. They're born fully equipped to kill and far stronger than your average person, and usually have some special trick up their sleeves due to being handmade by the Watchers.

Kai'Sa's was something touched by the void, slowly mutated. No intent. Purely random. She got very lucky. It's still hard at times to suspend my disbelief about her but it was pretty much just dumb luck. The stuff in that cavern isn't at the level of a Voidborn.

You haven't really missed much. The community is assembling our understanding of the Void from a ton of extrapolation and little crumbs of knowledge left by the writers to satisfy our hungry souls.

It's simple.

Because Kai'sa's lore makes absolutely no sense.

Because they wanted her to look fappable. You look at the design and appeal of all void-related content before Kai'sa, you remember how Riot was telling the playerbase that she would satisfy people who had been waiting a long time to see a sexy champion again, and you look at the design of her costume... the only logical conclusion is that they wanted a fappable character first and a good design with a fitting story second.

Eye Candy.

To put it briefly and bluntly, Riot's own lore isn't canon, and they don't care about consistency. Treat it like random fanfics.

because kai'sa's design is a goddamn mess overall

Children weaken the Void, and any form of corruption for that matter.

Read Nunu's lore for more information.

The voidling she defeated as a child was younger and weaker than herself at the time.

Not all voidborn beings are equal in power.

Kai'sa was simply lucky that she came across a weaker voidborn and stabbed the heart of the thing.

Now the creature can't kill Kai'sa because it is unable to survive without a host, hence why it latched onto her instead.

Different Void creatures do different things, as obvious from the variety of Void champions there are. Don't forget, Malzahar also has Void power, so does Kassadin. The Void isn't as simple as "It just works".

Basically, the Voidling wasn't strong enough to instantly consume her.
