Quite simply. His Mask. I believe Zed found a cursed Mask or helmet of some kind that gifted him with shadow powers he has. Kinda like a Ninja Majora's Mask. My idea of this comes from the new art work presented in his lore comic. Zed doesn't just have red eyes without the mask on. but with it on they remain red. I believe it could be an enchanted mask

It should be somekind of Scroll of Forbidden Art that had Shadow Energy in it that why he can teach others.

But if the powers are unique to the mask, then how can the other members of the Order of Shadow also use those powers?
